Been there, had that done to me... "You will feel some pressure"... BS, pressure hell, that hurts.

But, I got my revenge. In the recovery room, you have to lay on your back for the longest time and not move. Every so often the nurse would come in and check your dressing to see if there was any bleeding. I had a cute little Asian nurse and could see the clock on the wall and knew just when she was due to come in and check the dressing. Just before she was due, I'd reach down and move my willy over on to the dressing. She'd come in and have to move my willy so she could check the dressing... time after time. Yeah, I got a cheap thrill, but a thrill is a thrill.

I was a nuclear electrician in the Navy along with having the special privilege of becoming a SWCC (which not very many nuke's can due in the navy due to our schooling being strict, and I only got to go to SWCC training b/c I volunteered to see if I could while I was recovering from a knee surgery). Well I got out and wanted to become a residential or commercial electrician (having been one for 5ish years) but they all wanted to start me at year 1 apprentice (50k a yr price cut for me). I said screw that, haha I love my toys. So I got out in september when the economy sucked, and found this job as a Field Service Manager for a huge power generation corporation. On a regular basis, I get 7 days off every couple weeks or so, but now I am traveling around the world, which is amazing money, but a lousy job. Not hands on at all, and I have gained weight, LOL. Suppose it is the fact I get to eat great food now whenever I want.

I think the 192 is pretty common. I have only seen the CO-60 in Navy applications. It is all actually pretty safe as long as you follow the million guidelines and safety precautions they have. I was a nuke in the Navy, got my degree and all that and almost went to work for Constellation in Oswego NY, but I didn't want to deal with OSHA on steroids.

My father started a small tool & die shop 33yrs ago. He's retired now (he's here about 50hrs a week now) so my brother and I split leadership responsibilities at the shop. Our bread and butter is progressive stamping dies for the automotive industry but we also do custom fabrication, repair and build new machinery, and we have a small secondary stamping shop.

I lean towards the CNC side of things and keep things going in that area. Basically, I draw stuff then write a program from what I draw then hit start and let the machines do the work.

I worked on and was a crewchief of OH-58 scouts, UH-1 Hueys, and UH-60 Blackhawks when I was in the Army and the National Guard. I currently work for Boeing Rotorcraft in Mesa, Arizona as a helicopter technician on the AH-64D Longbow Apache and the AH-6 Littlebird helicopters. I've been at the same plant for almost 24 years. It's a great job and it has sent me all over the U.S. and to Greece, Israel, and recently to Korea. The good pay is also a plus. The name changed from Hughes Helicopters, to McDonnell Douglas, and now to Boeing. This is also my very first post. Thought this was a good thread to start on.

True, but with the Navy you'd get to see the world, plus you do nothing as an officer. Where if you go Air Force, you may be stuck at some desert base somewhere over seas, atleast with the Navy you can pull into different places, and trust me, no matter where you go there will be the military hoes (both of which are in the military and some that aren't) but unless you go to a small base a lot of criticism will happen. Ya see, at big bases a lot of the locals always see the soldiers in the paper for DUI's and crap like that like they aren't normal people, so the locals don't like the service members too much.

Maniac, I'm going to throw my hat in for the Air Force. I was enlisted for 6 years in the Air Force. Now I work as a civilian with the Army/Navy/USMC. Mostly Army. The Air Force takes care of its people better then any other branch of the service, HANDS DOWN! I can't stress this enough. The hours are better and the people are smarter. They have stricter criteria for those interested in joining versus the other branches. Lots of fucking idiots in the Army/Navy/USMC. I'm not hating on the other branches, just stating my experiences with them.

With that said, if you want to become a pilot you will need to goto college and come in as an officer. OTS or ROTC is the best way to go. DO NOT LISTEN TO A RECRUITER WHO TELLS YOU THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO OFFICER ONCE YOU JOIN ENLISTED. On a second note if I could do it over again I wouldn't have joined the AF as enlisted. I would have gone to school and joined as an Officer. Way better pay and more respect.

As far as careers outside the Military. I'd say Navy and Air Force are pretty well even. Especially if you have the degree to be an Officer.

I completely agree w/ the AF taking care of it's people. Not only are the hours less, but they have by far the best bases out there. But Patrick, as an officer in either the navy or AF I dont think maniac would be doing much work at all. Also Maniac, look into flight colleges where you can get your liscense before hand, that would help you out a bunch.

to piggyback on the whole AF vs. the other branches... im currently in the desert, and guess who's installation is the only one with a swimming pool? nuff said.

currently, im an aircraft mechanic. you can go officer after youve already enlisted, but its a lengthy and competitive process. however, if you can get into these programs, they are pretty decent. i would definitely look at AFROTC, but youll be flying a desk if youre not flying a plane. screw that.

Good job. I dont know how some of you guys do it haha. I did 6 years on a darn sub, and it was miserable. 16-18 hour work days, and that bonus did look good as it does to most, but totally not worth it for me. I am assuming you are prolly E7 or E8 then ay? I got out as an E6 EM, and the pay was great, especially with the sea pay kicker and nuke pay, but damn wasn't worth working the whole time haha. First two years on the sub I was port and STBD duty days, so technically never got a day off in two years and wasn't able to take any leave at all, plus we went out to sea a lot. One of the best experiences in my life and it sculpted me into a better person for it, but there was no way I could do 20+.
