Who thinks i should paint my 08' like the 09' with black wheels and hubs. I'm thinking it'd look pretty good. Yay? Nay?

Black wheels always looks great in my opinion, but how do you plan on painting them? Anything but powdercoating and the wheels will look like crap after a couple rides.

I was going to use spray paint. Reason being - powder will chip and eventually you'd want to re powder them. Spray paint is paint... just spray it if it scratches. 2 cans of spray would more than likely do all 4 wheels pretty good which cost a whole $10.

If you don't mind always having to retouch them, go for it.

Red hubs would really set the black off

If you need them powder coated let me know. We have a powder coating line at work and we run our standard black every day. Powder coating is the only way to go. Spray paint and a pressure washer do not mix. Also keep in mind that aluminum will not hold paint very well without being baked on. When we powder coat aluminum we have to preheat the aluminum after it runs through a 5-stage acid wash and rinse then powder coat them and bake the powder on.

Love the look with the black. I will be doing mine and I think that red hubs may be an option also.

I checked today on a Powder coating Price.

I can get it done for $25 Per Rim. If anyone is interested. This would be for running your rims through our 5-stage acid wash and rinse with a final Halo rinse and then powder coating them our standard TGIC black. This would not include shipping them back.

I believe I can get the Black Wrinkle finish also for around $30 per rim. We do not run Wrinkle as often so the turn around time would be longer.

Just need the bare rim and it should be clean :). The Acid wash and rise it not a car wash :), but rather a surface prep for the Powder.

Looks better but I highly doubt the spray paint will last.

Yeah, i agree that powdercoating is probably the way to go. But I have $4 in paint just to see what it looks like.

I finished spraying the insides tonight, looks alot better since you can't see the inside of silver wheels.

Also, i'm headed out this weekend to test the durability :D

I have a friend that has had a red HMF on his Raptor for close to 5 years now, and it still looks BRAND NEW...no lie!

Does he ride in the sand or something? I have taken my 700xx out once and the stock muffler already has dirt/mud stains on it. Am I not cleaning it correctly?

Admin

Nope, he rides in very tough and muddy trails. Thats all there is around here. I think it cleans even easier than a stock silencer because it has a coat of clear on it...its very smooth to the touch. You would never be able to tell it was 5 years old, it literally looks perfect.

Yours should still get clean somewhat, what do you use? Washing with soap & water and then wiping it down with armor all should make it look good.

That's what I do, minus the armor-all. Here is a picture, keep in mind, it went from the dealer showroom to my garage to the field and back to the garage, its been washed TWO times since it's been in the garage.

The muffler has been washed twice... not the rest of the quad - obviously.

Try Armor All, I bet it will clean right up. If you clean any quad with just soap and water it will look like crap once it dries.

Yeah that's something about my stock muffler that aggravates me, you can obviously see where the three chambers are as the end two get hotter (I guess) and they are harder to clean the outside of.

I'm going to try some armor all. I hope I can find some lemony fresh scented so when it burns off it smells nice.

lol

Simple Geen, mixed 50/50 with water does great. Also, Purple power, from Walmart, does a good job too. Just dont let the stuff dry on the quad before you rinse it off.

im thinking a matte black would not show as many scratches/knicks .... just my 2 cents.

Well I just took my tires off yesterday and took them to the ATV shop to have the tires removed. I am going to get them powder coated black at work. I have not decided on a matte black or our standard 60% Gloss.

UPDATE on "Krylon Mod" for the wheels...

Did some serious trails today. Paint held up VERY well. I DID get 3 scratches on the lip though. I'll call those battle scars. I'll touch them up tomorrow with a quick shot of Krylon ;)

I tried the armor all this weekend while I was doing maintenance on my 700xx. It made the dirt spots look wet, but that's about it.

YES! I want THAT pipe. I'm also thinking, if you're clever with your Elka remote resevoir location, that you can put a center mount 600rr Two Bros muffler in the center. Maybe a gsxr600 GP muffler in the center :D
