Assuming you own one, would you recommend one to someone else who rides like you. What would you change?

What did you ride before?

For the price we paid for these, adjustable shocks would have been good.
Better plastics where your boots rub would be good too. Mine look like I took sandpaper to them.

A parking brake that can stand up to the mud and dirt would have been nice. I have taken mine off since I got tired of adjusting it all of the time.

lol @ the parking brake thing. I used mine the 1st day, after that I just leave it in 1st...

ditto on the heel part bu the pegs.

I can live with the stock suspension, but front wheels pushing in the turns is my biggest complaint. I can't wait to find a solution thats reasonable.

I don't have much to complain about but wonder how power increases will be dealt with not having a swingarm to extend. The bike stands up easy as is and will only be worse when upgraded. Other than that I love the bike

Yeah, not being an engineer I can guess that they could have the rear a-arms "swept" back a little to extend the wheelbase.

could always add a wheelie bar! :ohno: How about some ballast on the front like a winch?

Or a front mounted battery.

I wouldn't want to offset the balance of the bike putting weight in the front although it is a good thought. Some rear offset a-arms wouldn't really work because you would have to move the entire rear subframe with it in order for the cv shafts not to bind... Only option is an extended rear subframe. It may not be that far fethced of an idea but I'm offshore and can't go look over the bike to see what it would take.

You might have something there! There is a lower subframe that looks like it could be extended but the upper a-arms are connected the tail end of the main frame. I think an adapter could be fabricated, but it would need to be elaborate. Perhaps a whole new subframe that included upper a-arm mounts would be easier. Keep in mind I'm only looking at a parts diagram of the frame on Motosport.com, a more thorough investigation maybe warrented.

Yep......rear shock mounts would have to be moved also. Could only move a bit as the frame sweeps down at the top.

I would definitely recommend one to riders who ride in terrrain like I do. Things I would change?

1. Cut down on the amount of plastic. It looks friggin' sweet when they are new, but it gets trashed quick...especially the frame guards.

2. Change the gear ratios a bit. Definitely shorten third gear. Put some of that top end snort back at the bottom and midrange.

3. Sell them off the floor with fully adjustable, rebuildable shocks (like the Raptor).

smo0oth1
12-17-2008, 06:42 PM
I don't notice the 3rd gear problem everyone speaks about??? Hmmm.... But anyway the rears are rebuildable correct?

I like mine. It's perfect stock with the 13t sprocket. After I get some mods on it, we'll see if I want to go back to the 14t, but I DOUBT it. The 13t definitely helped the 3rd gear ratio.

If I had built it, or had say in it... i'd have made it 4x4. I think there is a strong demand for a sport quad with 4x4 like the Can Am Renegade.

I come from an 1987 Honda TRX250 FourTrax

If I had a say, it would have come stock with Maxxis tires instead of those junklops and the wheels would have been a more common size so that we would have more tire options without purchasing new wheels. Oh, and the wheels would be stronger and not bend so easily. Other than that, it`s perfect imo.

Yes sir, I can't stress enough to the guys that don't have Razr's how much better it makes the XX. I was totally surprised and grinning ear to ear after installing them

I like my 700, I put 24x10x11 mud lites on the rear and a thirteen tooth sprocket. My best freind bought one, and recomended I get one, I liked it so well I talked my brother in law into getting one. So, now instead of my 400ex, my best freinds 400ex and my brother in law's 350 king quad, We all have 700xx's, and having a blast.

i wish honda would put rebound and compression adjustable shocks on the 700xx.i think the stock back shocks are better than the fronts. i have bottomed the fronts quite a bit, not the backs yet. i am going to stiffen the springs up in the front a little. that should help.

I guess I'm one of the few that put "somewhat" and that's because of everything that others have already mentioned. Don't get me wrong here, I do love the quad, but there are some things I'd like to see improved.

If there was just one thing I'd add to what has already been said... make it lighter.

I really don't see the weight as an issue with any of the riding I do. I actually find it makes the bike more stable. But... If it were lighter I wouldn't complain. Has anyone actually been in a situation where the weight of the quad limited you?

Not a simple answer here. There are times that the extra weight holds you back a bit over lighter quads... Harder to fly for one... and in deep dry sand you don't float as well... such as Pismo. If you bury your rear tires in soft sand, you have to lift and swing your back end over to get back on top of the sand and this can be a bitch with a heavy quad.

I love this machine, its great for the rough trails. If you want to drag race then get a raptor. My only complaint is the rear wheel selection made by Honda...WTF? 11"? Our lives would be so much easier if they had just put the 10" wheel on.

I like my 700xx for sure and The fit and the look are great but i do wish it could handle better when cornering . If that were fixed and there wasn't that front end push when going around curves then the bike would be that great and Honda would sell a lot more . Instead of having to rail the bike around a curve unlike a straight axled quad . Obviously , there are fixes but it can cost a lot extra as well unless you are one of the people that picked up a 700xx for 4k and have the extra money to put in suspension, tires , etc... Eventually i will do that because i like my bike an i want to make my 700xx handle better because i would rather have it than some of the other bikes i have ridden just need change a few things to make it better in the Handling dept .

I dont like the fact that the front fenders are just for looks. It doesnt keep the mud out of my face. Other than that i love it.

I put somewhat bc I wish the handling was better and it had more power. I would recomend this bike to anyone that could buy it for $4400 like I did last month. Hard to complain much when I saved that much over what they used to cost. All in all its confortable and fun to ride. Just needs some better tires for starters to get rid of the push.

ive had an xx for about 2 months, imo its a little bit heavy, not really noticeable until you go to lift it out of the mud or load/unload from a truck w/o ramps (compared to my old 400ex). It seems Honda could have engineered some more aluminum into the subframe, a-arms, similar to the honda 450r... dont get me wrong i love this bike, but would be better if it lost 25-35lbs....

11" rims were to accommodate IRS w/ mud scrapers.:disgust:

The only problem I had with the bike was the stock rims. Honda messed up with how weak they made them. I'm willing to bet 90% of people will go through a stock rim a lot quicker than they should have. Also the $400+ price tag here in Canada to replace 1 rear rim was insanity.

Rim bitchin aside this bike is one of the best things I've ever bought. I ride with all kinds of makes and models of bikes and the XX holds it's own or out does even the best of them.

Another “somewhat” vote here. I think in stock form, the 700XX leaves something to be desired. I was disappointed with the motor, just seems really corked up. Once I did the “big 3” mods to it, it really woke up and runs 100% better. Can not wait to dig into the motor and have some internal mods done. I took a quick ride on an EHS built motor about a month and a half ago and was really impressed, so I know the motor will make me very happy once I tear into it.

I feel the stock front shocks are some of the worst shocks ever to be put on quad. Honda should be embarrassed. The rears are not too bad. I will say that even as bad as the front shocks are, the suspension definitely has potential. I will be going with new a-arms and shocks all around. Once I get everything dialed in, I know it will be an awesome setup.

1. 47.5 inches wide just like Polaris Outlaw

2. Shocks with at least compresion adjustment.

3. 13 tooth sproket

4. 23" front tires

5. Better looking plastics

Only change would be a 13tooth or 12tooth front sprocket. This really is the only change you need when you have a stock 700xx.

Everything else is great. Don't get me wrong, we all will upgrade items, but IMO, a gear change is manditory.

I disagree on the gear change. I love how mine is geared from the factory.

My only complaint is better shocks, but that was the same complaint I had on every quad I owned including raptor 660. I end up replacing shocks but I am planning on keeping this one longer I love it ordering ehs big 3 soon

I voted somewhat.

I can't complain too much for the price they have been selling the 2008's for. For the retail price they should have better front shocks. The rears are ok but it would be nice if they were adjustable.

I liked the seat comfort, IRS and reverse the best over my LTR.

Since my rollover at the end of March that bent my steering stem and the part of the frame that the upper bushing bolts is bent back, it's kind of a downer. My wife is out of work so I don't have the funds to fix it. I barely got enough to get a used stem. I don't know if it can even be repaired which means I may miss riding all year. This is the longest I have gone without being able to ride a quad. I doubt I even have 10 hours on it. Wish I had over 100 on it.

I've owned a 2000 400EX, 2003 Suzuki Z400, 2004 Max Power Z455, 2004 Z400 holdover, 2004 Z400 (Johnny Gallaghers 2004 GNCC quad) and an LTR that I had completely XC race ready. Then I got the KTM bug and never got enough money to buy it and couldn't pass up the deal on the 700XX.

The thing is somewhat is going to be an answer for any quad stock. If they all came perfect from the factory then there would be no aftermarket. It is a great machine that I love it just needs to be personalized a bit

i think it should come stock with 23 's on the frt it makes a huge difference on the steering I felt it eliminated the frt end from pushing in corners like what vfm2010 was talking about I put itp track star radials on mine handles great now

I am somewhat impressed with my new 700xx. I feel like it is taking a lot more money to get the performance I am looking for out of it than it was with my YFZ. That being said I do like the IRS... when I am going in a straight line that is. Cornering this thing is almost impossible. Also I think the styling of the bike is ugly. I think they should have made it look more like Matlocks race quad from the factory. There is enough fenders on this thing for two bikes. Overall I do like the bike or I would not have bought it. It is very unique and I like that about it. It also has won the Baja 1000. Downside is the money it takes to have a real monster of a 700xx. Just my opinion.

this bike is absolutely awesome. I can only think of 2 things I would change if I had to. One- I want the itp ss112 rims(i think that's right). Two- the front still looks weird to me at certain angles. But, that's it. And that's only if I had to change anything. My last atv got stolen and I haven't been riding for about 5 years. I went from a stroked warrior to this, big change. My warrior had to be set up to be the trail bike I wanted. I am on a better trail bike out of the box than that was and I thought the warrior was great.

I got mine new for $4400. When I first rode it I was Impressed with the plush ride. but the power and traction was little less impressive. I've got some good tires, offset wheels, the big 3, and after some seat time on it I love it.

The XX is actually shorter and narrower than the 450. Installing Razr's on the rear allow you to slide with ease. It's night and day difference, The stock dunlops make the XX want to roll over. The Razr's have a 1/4 of the sticking power as the dunlops and allow you to slide and do donuts just like a SRA.

Smooth your lucky I paid $7850 for mine. I bought mine 2 days after it hit the showroom floor. Honda should give us a check for the diff of what their selling them now for since they trashed our resale value. Last new honda I will ever buy just because of that.

Yea it sucks, I just purchased a Honda Ruckus for the fiance and hit a snafu with the sales man. I worked on him for an hour at a better price and they wouldn't budge. After the cash purchase we were signing the paperwork and he slipped a paper under another for me to sign. Out of curiousity to what I was signing I pulled it out to see that I signed a ticket for 200$ Honda bucks I "recieved". I filed a complaint the next day and currently waiting to hear back.

That's really fucked up. Crooked sales people (DaGirl) LMAO. Did you send the complain to corporate? Or just to the guys manager?

Luckily I have got every one of my Honda's (except my rancher) from the same dealer back home, I worked in the shop when I was in school, and I am good friends w/ their son. So I usually get the best deal possible. However when it came to the XX, I got in in 08, and I paid $5600, which I know is still a hell of a deal over MSRP, but looking now I am upset. But then again, when I go there, they still have a black one for $5200 I think.

I am very satisfied with it. As Smo0oth said, if you put different tires on it, it is a completely different machine. I have RZR2's, and they don't roll at all like the stockers. I thought it had plenty of power, but my biggest gripe at first was the aftermarket sector. I love my nerf bars, but I got them in SEP 08, was supposedly their "first" set, and hardly anything lined up. As these companies come around to produce more for our beast, it will be a better all around machine (not that it isn't already). As of right now, it is my favorite machine (I am including my 2 450rs I just sold as well) just b/c it is fun to ride, it is a powerhouse, and my back feels nothing compared to SRA on the trails.

thats what i'm sayin', i slide mine around like crazy, you just gotta get used to it is all and it WAYYYY better in the tight stuff than my 450 was because the gearing and torque are more adapted to trails as opposed to a race atv...also, i smashed my poor 450s axle carrier on a piece of granite or quartz or something, my 700 is IMPOSSIBE to hurt anything besides the frame from the bottom...
