: My Trip to Sand Hill ATV in Perkingston, MS
DblXX 12-29-2008, 10:11 PM just got my XX the week before Christmas and decided to take it to the dunes to see how it does. didn't have paddles so most of the other bikes killed me on the drag strip but non of them could hang with me across the washboard or any other turns or bumps of any kind. this a good machine in the sand.

xx-rated 12-30-2008, 12:51 AM They'd be even cooler if you were wearing a DAMN HELMET!!
scuzz 12-30-2008, 08:14 AM When did you go?
Check out my video at the same place where we made a climb in the back.

i just bought one yesturday, your not the first to give me shit about that. i'll have it next time.
smo0oth1 12-30-2008, 09:42 AM I think I'm the only one not to go there yet, Have to set up a ride some time so we all can go.

Sorry man, but all it takes is a split second and it's game over. A guy I know was killed this summer riding without a helmet. He was just putting down a trail, lost control and the quad flipped over on top of him and crushed his skull. He wasn't like a close freind or anything, but still, it was a shame, and a helmet probably would have saved him.
I have seen people out on the trails without them and it just seems crazy to me.
At least you were out in the sand!
scuzz 12-30-2008, 10:12 AM Yeah, that sand is very forgiving, and 90% of the time I ride with one, but honestly most of the time out there I'm climbing soft sand and seldom make it out of third.
scuzz 12-30-2008, 10:13 AM Also, did you check out the part of that place called "area 4"? It's near the cement plant and has some really cool places to climb.

even though i was in sand i could have hit or got hit by another bike that i didn't see and the could be bad, but now im ridding safe.
I think I'm the only one not to go there yet, Have to set up a ride some time so we all can go.
yeah we need to head up to the dunes in forest hill one day, i can't wait to see your bike in action when you get it back together.

i probly rode over every bit of that place not sure where the cement plant was but im guessing its where most of the rocks and hard terrain area is, and yes i been back there it was pretty cool back there.

It's back my the "wall" where everyone tempts fate by riding on it and slipping into the pond.
You'll pass the landfill.
VelociRaptor 12-31-2008, 09:24 AM This place isnt but 3.5hrs away from me....Hmmmmm
scuzz 12-31-2008, 09:51 AM It's really a lot of fun. During the warmer months my buddies skim all the ponds there.
Here's my riding buddy doing it on his big-bored 700r:

Here's another buddy of mine, Mike on his 450r:

..and another buddy, Nat on his KTM525XC:

I've mentioned this before on other threads but Jeff, the guy who runs everything is super nice.
VelociRaptor 12-31-2008, 10:26 AM He runnin a 734(105.5mm bore) or a 727(105mm) on that 700r?
I have paddles too!
smo0oth1 12-31-2008, 10:30 AM Can you only skim like that on paddles?
scuzz 12-31-2008, 10:37 AM He runnin a 734(105.5mm bore) or a 727(105mm) on that 700r?

734
Here he is launching on our trip to little sahara in Oklahoma (the KTM is in the nbackground):

scuzz 12-31-2008, 10:41 AM Can you only skim like that on paddles?
Pretty much. Others have done it on stock tires but ultimately failed.
I tried it with angle paddles (and incorrect offset wheels) in the shallows of a creek on my 700xx and ended up putting it on it's side. :(
VelociRaptor 12-31-2008, 10:47 AM So hes runnin single exhaust? Hes loosin alot of power on that Raptor....up to 17rwhp in the overrevs.
smo0oth1 12-31-2008, 10:48 AM Man thats alot of power from an exhaust change, What kinda RWHP they put out?
scuzz 12-31-2008, 10:51 AM So hes runnin single exhaust? Hes loosin alot of power on that Raptor....up to 17rwhp in the overrevs.
Yeah, he's got the Yosh exhaust. What would you recommend for him?
He's having electrical problems with it now but would love for it to haul ass like the KTM.
DblXX 12-31-2008, 12:23 PM It's back my the "wall" where everyone tempts fate by riding on it and slipping into the pond.
You'll pass the landfill.
ok i know where your talking about now. if your back by the dunes you have to cross that little creek.
scuzz 12-31-2008, 12:31 PM Yep!
VelociRaptor 12-31-2008, 01:01 PM Monster or Braker duals for the 700 Raptor. A nicely built 734 with 12:1 or more and a big cam with duals will put down 70rwhp or more depending on the porting. If its built and tuned right the KTM wouldnt be a problem if its stock internal.
scuzz 12-31-2008, 01:10 PM I'm thinking he went with a lower compression, but I could be wrong.
VelociRaptor 12-31-2008, 01:16 PM 10.75:1 is real popular so that probably it. Hes on pump gas? 65-70rwhp still is about were it should lay on the dyno.
scuzz 12-31-2008, 01:20 PM Yeah he's on pump gas for sure.
As I mentioned before he's running into electrical problems with relays and whatnot and is running rich. (the two are not related IMO)
He's getting really frustrated with it at this point as he is practically replacing everything electrical on the quad.
scuzz 09-22-2009, 08:20 PM Hey DBlXX, you still ride?
DblXX 10-12-2009, 08:56 PM Yeah, i haven't in a while. I moved twice in one year so im just getting situated, im wanting to go back to Sand Hill but the spill way just west of New Orleans is closer for me and its free to ride there, lots of trails.
smo0oth1 10-12-2009, 09:02 PM You still in Lafayette Dblxx? When you going back to the spill way, I've never been there. We ride in Cravins and Forest Hill
DblXX 10-13-2009, 03:09 PM I'm living down in Houma now, took another job. I haven't been to Forest Hill in a while i don't go up to ride unless a bunch of people go that i know. I'm going pick my XX up next week and bringing it to Houma so after that i'll be ready to go ride, if anybody wants to meet up at the spillway we'll set something up.
smo0oth1 10-13-2009, 04:01 PM Would you be able to go Sunday the 24th? Its the only day I can go till next month. Prolly be two or three of us from my area would go.
scuzz 10-13-2009, 07:50 PM Going there this Saturday!
smo0oth1 10-13-2009, 08:07 PM I'm offshore till the 22nd
scuzz 10-13-2009, 08:26 PM Poo.
smo0oth1 10-13-2009, 08:33 PM Yup, Getting my XX retuned this weekend also. Was supposed to be done last weekend but it was 100% humidity which isn't ideal weather. A front is passing through Thursday so It'll be back on the dyno.
Red700xx 10-14-2009, 12:08 AM Red700xx,

DblXX 10-14-2009, 06:09 PM Would you be able to go Sunday the 24th? Its the only day I can go till next month. Prolly be two or three of us from my area would go.
Correction, Saturday is the 24th. What day are you going saturday or sunday, sunday i could make it, saturday would be a maby. I'm on call this weekend and the following weekend im going pick my XX from Picayune, MS that saturday and bringing it back to Houma, its been probly 4 months sense i even started or rode the thing so i may need a few hours to make sure all is good. If you do go on sunday i'll be there.
smo0oth1 10-14-2009, 06:23 PM Yea I meant Sunday, Just have Scuzz bring it to you when he comes ride with us Sunday :)
DblXX 10-14-2009, 11:28 PM I'll be picking it up that saturday so ya, i'll be up there sunday. what time are you going?
scuzz 10-15-2009, 01:46 AM I'll try and make it. I'll just have to make sure my wife is extra happy.
Atlanta 700xx 10-15-2009, 10:36 PM I'll try and make it. I'll just have to make sure my wife is extra happy.
