: Houser @ parker 250
wayne matlock 01-14-2009, 05:19 PM Last weekend was the first race for the Best In The Desert series in Parker AZ. It was also the first time that we raced with the new front end that Houser made for us. After spending A day in the desert testing shock setups we have the 700XX working way better than we did previously. It is amazing how much better that front end made the quad handle one of the biggest things has to be the steering steam they changed the tie rod mounting points to correct the bump steer and I could tell right away. As for the race we got 5th, 1 mile before the finish line we broke A timing chain and Harold had to push it in for A 5th place finish. By the way Houser is going to make rear A-Arms very soon so give them a call.
OzLinc 01-14-2009, 05:42 PM WOW......:rock:Welcome to Club700XX and thanks for the info.
Did you change the caster on your front end? do you have any understeer issues?......What do you think rear a-arms will do for you/me?
Well done on your recent Baja1000 win.
Linc
wayne matlock 01-14-2009, 06:11 PM Yes we did add A little more caster about 2 degrees as for the rear end we are hoping that we will end up at about 12'' of wheel travel and make it about 49'' wide at ride hight using maxxis 22 x 11 x 8 tires. The rear arms will also be stronger and have more ground clearance I have bent 3 lower arms and 1 upper in the past.
trailin'me 01-14-2009, 08:13 PM nice ..the mighty wayne matlock has joined us. TY for being a superb rider guy! You make it fun to read and watch motorsports for my friends and I... most importantly .. you make it fun for me to ride.
Class act fella man ... keep it up .. you have a lot of young (and old) fans out there... and its quite refreshing to see a down to earth guy riding, racing, and winning that isn't an arrogant asshole.
for real ..ty for joining.

How bad was the engine damage?
TRX_Sixpac_700xx 01-14-2009, 11:27 PM Here is a video of the front A-arms by Houser.

5W0P3 01-15-2009, 01:29 AM Welcome to the forum!
I got dibbs on the exhaust system! lol
vfm2010 01-15-2009, 09:53 AM Welcome aboard! And Congratulations on Winning Baja!
wayne matlock 01-15-2009, 10:58 AM Actually about that exhaust system after all that time and money that they spent on it, Now it is sitting on a shelf. we were testing for the Baja 1000 with the Honda engineers and we put on the HMF pipe after riding the quad Honda's test riders / engineers thought the HMF had better all around performance so I gave them there pipe back.
scuzz 01-15-2009, 11:02 AM You know, that was what I was thinking was going to happen. Especially when there is such nominal gain with something like that.
Which pipe did you all end up going with? (I know HMF, but which type?)
wayne matlock 01-15-2009, 11:04 AM How bad was the engine damage?
We are hoping not bad it did not make any bad metal to metal sounds
apparently when you press the Dcomp onto the XR 650 power up cam it needs A spacer. That is why we broke the timing chain.
scuzz 01-15-2009, 11:10 AM You posting that just saved a few people here a huge headache.
Thanks!

I thought it mite I still have not heard from Japan on the size of the spacer.
5W0P3 01-15-2009, 01:29 PM I just liked the exit of that muffler. Nothing like it. I do like my 2bros slip on i have now though too.
smo0oth1 01-15-2009, 10:07 PM What all engine mods are done to your bike?
scuzz 01-15-2009, 10:13 PM He could tell you but then he would have to send web-assins driving donk-ed deltas for you.
smo0oth1 01-15-2009, 10:16 PM Hopefully he could look over my build and fill me in on any potential problems I may have missed. Appreciate the heads up on the cam Decomp though. Can you (Matt) tell me the deck height at TDC though? I never heard back from you on PM.
trailin'me 01-16-2009, 01:12 AM im guessing wayne matlock has an entire fleet of honda engineers working on his machine... at his level i wouldnt imagine he takes much part in the engine build ... although i could me mistaken.
wayne matlock 01-17-2009, 03:57 PM What all engine mods are done to your bike?
Ported head and HRC 650 power up cam for now but we are working on a piston .

Still trying to find out all let you know ....(Matt)????

Not as many in the fleet as you would think I try to be pretty involved in all of it. That way if it works our brakes I'm steal responsible and it also helps when were testing to know what's going on.
trailin'me 01-17-2009, 07:13 PM so you really are down to earth ... i think many guys in your shoes forgot that its fun to ride ...and not always a job.... keep winning dood! I love bashing raptorfans with your wins ... and why ..cause they have no answer haha.
CrstyDmn 01-19-2009, 09:44 AM Wayne, thank you for taking the time to post info and tips.
I really appreciate it.

Wayne or John,
Any update for the reason the timing chain broke?

Possible problem with the cam. Last I heard they are still reviewing everything.
scuzz 02-05-2009, 02:38 PM Ok, just checking in to see if you guys had any new information regarding that.
OzLinc 02-05-2009, 05:57 PM I thought the issue with the timing chain was that they used the XR650 cam and didn't realise that the sprocket needed a spacer.........it's bloody close and you wouldn't see it unless you know.
smo0oth1 02-05-2009, 06:02 PM I've got a XR and XX cam, I thought I had measured the measurement in question and it was the same. I'll get a pic and post

"apparently when you press the Dcomp onto the XR 650 power up cam it needs A spacer. That is why we broke the timing chain"
OK so it's the decomp not the timing chain sprocket.
Smooth, measurements and pics would be great........just like swapping front shocks, there are so many stories going around, facts are so hard to come by now days.
BiFfMaN 02-06-2009, 12:17 AM The Pic was here in this thread.....
