: Handle Bars, Handle Bars, Handle Bars...
5W0P3 01-22-2009, 02:40 PM I've asked around in other random threads but I figured i'd start one good, once for all thread about handle bars. So far in my ownership of my XX, both sides of my bars have gotten bent, so now i'm just going to put new bars on it. But i'm not sure which ones to put on there. I know they all have different bends and heights and I know about the flexx bars, but i'm not sure what bends or whatever I need.
That being said, what do I want? I'm pretty short so if the bars could come back a little bit more that would be good. I know I dont want an MX bend/height because all we do is ride trails with the occasional blast through the sand. I know the Flexx bars are nice, but they also have a nice price tag. Is the price of 3 sets of handle bars worth the flexx?!
scuzz 01-22-2009, 03:32 PM Both sides? Did you bend them when we went riding?

Yeah, my little argument with the sand just tweaked them a little bit. After talking to Bo on the phone about how weak they really are, I want to upgrade.
scuzz 01-22-2009, 03:40 PM Yeah be careful though, I learned the hard way on my 400EX that stronger bars mean the next expensive thing it's connected to breaks or bends when you roll it. (a-la steering shaft)
I like taller bars for obvious reasons, but I'm leery about bending my steering shaft.
Admin 01-22-2009, 03:47 PM If you're shorter, then most likely you DO want an MX bend since they're lower. As far as the sweep, they're all very similar...I would go with the CR low.
These might help a bit...

xx-rated 01-22-2009, 04:12 PM You'll need a bar with a hi-bend to match the height of the stock bars unless you get a pretty sizeable riser. I put on the Trail Tech logo clamp and Pro Taper EVO's on mine. They don't have as much sweep as the stock ones, but I ride pretty far forward anyway. The setup I have works great for me. Definitely invest in tapered bars. The Flexx would be great, but that is some serious cash for handlebars.

But how much more comfortable does that make your daily riding experience?
xx-rated 01-22-2009, 04:20 PM I've only rode a short distance with them, so I couldn't tell you if they are worth the cash. If you ride a lot of rough trails and you have a nice toy budget, then they may be worth it. I chose to get EVO's for about $80 bucks (plus about $90 for the clamp) and save the difference towards all the other crap that I have changed already; exhaust, programmer, intake, nerfs... and I've still got to replace my front tires. My buddy that had them on his Raptor liked them, but not enough that he has put a set on his new quad.
Admin 01-22-2009, 05:43 PM Yea if he wants to keep the stock bar height he would need a riser, but if he wants the bars lower, he wouldn't.
The flexx bars are great, but like xx-rated stated, they're only really worth it if you do most of your riding in tough, rutted trails. If you do a lot of wide-open area riding, you really wouldn't need them as much.
Chrisj 01-22-2009, 07:22 PM I have the X bars from Trail Tech in the medium bend. Pretty much the same as stock and they're cheap.
hpfreek 01-22-2009, 10:05 PM pro-taper raptor bend it will be the closest match

Gary you've seen/rode with us... which do you think I should get?
scuzz 01-22-2009, 11:53 PM I say get the best you can get when it comes to my stuff...well except paddle tires...I bought cheapo stuff.
Dave01 01-23-2009, 04:02 AM I have the Pro-Taper Coutour medium bend bars mounted on the Trailtech clamp. They are real close to stock height and i didnt cut the ends at all.
froggy 03-24-2009, 04:07 PM I have a 450r with flexx bars and in the process of getting a set for my 700xx. When you ride with these bars you dont really notice what they are doing but if you ever want to find out if a product is any good try riding without it. I did this without my flexx bars and precision dampner and the different was incredible. The biggest advantage for flexx bars i notice is in landings the bars just take out the shock through your arms when you land also through whoops and stutters. I know they are expensive but i really think they are worth the money.

I thought I had already answered this...but I hadn't sorry.

BiFfMaN 10-15-2009, 03:52 PM What is the width, rise and sweep on the stock xx bars?
I know the sweep is 15 Degrees...had to change mine because the angle it put my wrists at hurt after awhile.
delinquent43 11-26-2009, 03:30 PM i wanna find some bars that help with arm pump on trail rides i had pro tapers on my dirtbike about a year ago but thats gone along with the bars so i dont even remember what model they were. what do you guys recomend as far as that would go?
sonic007 11-27-2009, 08:27 PM I'm 6'2" and like to be off the seat...i went with a Protaper Contour in a CR mid bend, and a 3" riser...sits about sock height but have the flexibilty of positioning the bars forward or back...seems to work for me, but havent raced them yet....

LOMO700XX 12-14-2009, 08:53 PM will any aftermarket bars work with the stock clamp/dash thingy for lack of a better word?
i guess what i'm asking is will aftermarket bars work with the stock temp/neutral/reverse light thing?
Nasty700xx 12-14-2009, 10:02 PM Some will. You won't be able to use fat bars without changing the bar clamps

LOMO700XX 12-14-2009, 10:12 PM Do you mean the clamps where the bars attach to the steering stem?
If i'm not mistaken fat bars are fat in the middle and get skinny at the ends? so everything at the ends should still fit, just the middle is too big? sorry if thats a dumb question lol
How can you tell if it will work with the stock dash?
Jeez, picking out bars is really complicamacated.
Is there a bar with the stock bend just stronger?
OzLinc 12-15-2009, 04:30 AM You want one of these....... http://www.trailtech.net/030L-H700F.html
They have fat bars in a few heights to go with the clamp.......:yay:
rappyfreak 12-15-2009, 07:49 AM The pro taper SE raptor bend fits perfect and is about the same as stock. You just have totrim the dash on the sides a little. Did it on my friend's bike.

Thanks for the info rappy!
BiFfMaN 12-15-2009, 09:16 AM I concur with Rappy. They had those bars at the Dealer i got my quad from the bend was about the same.
Nasty700xx 12-15-2009, 12:11 PM Be careful of the trail tech bar clamp piece. If you ever change out the steering stem later you will have to go with OEM or the bar clamp setup will not work with most aftermarket stems. Most new stems come with Anti vibration spacers and bolts and the stock does not.

Did you use the stock clamp or the trailtech?
EDIT: my bad, didn't realize the se's were stock bar diameter
hellishot 12-20-2009, 06:28 AM I need my bars to be strighter (Less Sweep) and higher because when I turn I hit my knees. I'd also like the bars to be a little closer to me. What setup should I go with? How will a new setup effect wires and cables?
Nash04 12-20-2009, 08:32 AM I have the Trail Tech riser with Tusk Chub Big Bar ATV High Bend Black and you can adjust the bar to fit you, as for cable length, they are ok except for the front brake cable but is still good throughout the rotation of the bars so you would be ok. Sad part is that you have to made some cutting on the front side of the steering column so the trail tech fits properly so you will have some viewing cables.
jamie007 01-28-2010, 11:49 PM Trying to decide what to get, and I'm leaning towards the Trail Tech Mid bends with the Trail Tech Clamp. Looking for a setup close to stock but just a hair higher. This page has lots of info on just about every bar as far as dimensions go.

AZDEZRCR 01-29-2010, 11:25 AM The Fasst Flexx bars are great under extreme conditions and for long miles.I have ran them for many years on my Honda 450's I really didnt know how well they worked until I rode with another brand and WOW what a difference. The way the Flexx absorbs the vibration from the 700xx motor vibration is the key to getting rid of the nasty arm pump.Flexx has a great warranty on there bars if you bend them. I had a set that i did tweak a little and sent them in with $80 and received a new pair. The bars also have bushings that you can change according to how soft or hard you want them. You do need a new clamp for the bigger bar and you can run a vapor with a little modification. They are threaded if you need to mount lights to them and come in different bends. JUST MY .02$. I hope it helps.

I would recommend going with a Houser Steering Stem it is +1" and has anti-vibration bar clamps, you can choose either 7/8" or 1-1/8" and any bar you want. The cost is not too bad, I run Pro Taper fat bars ATV High Bend, but have ordered Flexx Bars. if you plan on using Flexx now or in the future get the 1 1/8" bar clamp
Nasty700xx 01-29-2010, 12:52 PM I think the Flexx are great especially after my hands took a beating at the Parker 250 on my Protaper's

I wish I could get Flexx bars, but just way too much money, my budget is about $150. Can i use the Houser anti-vibration clamp with the stock stem? The clamp is about the same price as the Trail Tech so it might be a good compromise. Also with the Houser clamp can you still use the "stock" dash for the indicator lights, or where do you have yours? As far as height goes, if I got the houser clamp and the TT X-bars would the medium bend be close to stock? Thanks in advance for answering my questions. :yay:
jamie007 01-30-2010, 11:21 AM Has anyone tried filling their bars with sand? Poor mans flexx bars? Thinking about doing that if it actually works.
Pyetime 01-31-2010, 11:02 AM Anyone try the X5 Tag ATV bars? I'm wondering 1) if you like them 2) if you can retain the use of the stock instrument panel?
jamie007 02-02-2010, 08:06 PM I decided to go with some Flexx bars, with a hand me down clamp from a friend. What bend/style do most people run? Is it the quad racer 14 degree?
