Has anybody switch to a twist throttle?
Which do you guy’s prefer and why.
I can't decide, today was my first day riding my 700xx :yay:and think a twist might be better.
your experience and help is appreciated
Thanks
Alex

Twists can get ya into trouble on a quad, its not like a bike in some situations.

It's really all about what you're used to. It's really no different than having it on a bike, unless you're used to a thumb throttle. I've been riding bikes (twist throttles) since I was 5, so I feel at home with it whether it's on a bike or quad.

It's no more dangerous than a thumb throttle in my opinion.

I have been toying with the idea of the dual setup. Twist when you want it or push a pin to lock the twist and you have the thumb bar back. This would be great on long trail rides. My thumb needs a day off after a full day of riding.

On a quad if you tag a rock/stump or something with one wheel you're now at full throttle if it turns the bars sharp enough. It doesn't matter how good your reflexes are you will not be able to get off the throttle fast enough. I've personally seen it many, many times. Search youtube and look at the pros that mess up from time to time with a twist throttle on a quad. But if you're riding in an open area where there's no technical riding like dunes it'll be fine.

Dual setup sounds like a good idea if you can design it.

So the bars can't get jerked out of your hands on a bike? I dunno, I had a twist throttle on one of my quads for many years, and never had any problems...didn't see any difference from a thumb throttle.

Yes they can, but it's less likely since you will normally come off the bike if you hit something or you just lay it down. You can tag something on a quad and you are still on the ground, usually upright. You can't lay a quad down. But it's what you're used to and the type of riding you do. Technical, rocky, tight trails I would never even consider a twist. I've been road racing motorcycles, trail/MX riding dirt bikes, and quads since I was 19 and I'm 34 now.

There are a few out there already. A little pricey, but worth it for what you get. That will be my next purchase after the front Sonic anti-roll system. Gotta save for a bit.

There is advantages and disadvantages to both........It's all personal preference.

Hate the twist throttle doomsdayers........"dont use a twisty!!!!.....It'll get your sister pregnant and kill ya dog"

Do ya rescearch on the Dual Gasser. A friend had one and took it back off; he said it was a pain in the a$$ and mentioned that it doesn't lock either twist or thumb they work at the same time.

Terry cable says that it takes a 10mm cable adjuster and it can't have a position senser switch.
I don't know what the 700xx has.
Does anybody know if this will work?

I prefer the twist throttle and really like the Vortex made by Motion Pro. The only thing that stinks is that Motion Pro has to custom make the cable and it PRICEY! I don't care for the CR Pro to long of a turn to get to WOT however the Vortex is almost an on/off switch 1/4 turn! I love it!

What would be really nice if someone came up with a new thumb lever shape that allows you to hold on better.
After looking a my throttle for a while I relized that I can position it better, so I will try it out this weekend a see if it's any better. It looks like it can be redesigned to be more ergonomic.

Just installed the new twist throttle setup. It is SWEET. Less than 1/2 turn to WOT. And it lets me choose between twist and thumb. Its from Alba but made by TerryCable. Simple straight forwad install and it took around 15 minutes. Plus its red and matches my AGV levers...LOL

Went out yesterday and just love the twist throttle. In the tight woods, I switched back to thumb control, but for the wide open areas, the twist is the way to go. No more sore thumbs.......

Yes, they do. Alba makes one! (http://store.albaaction.com/shop/T10038-XX.html)

I was interested in switching myself. Seems to be more like a preference thing. I'm in the desert anyways so it seems like it wouldn't be too much of a problem here. Either way, if I do feel like switching, I'll probably get the dual gasser one. Anyone know if there is any drawback to the dual gasser versus just going straight either way??

Got any photos of the Dually installed? I'm on the fence, but hate when my "Nintendo" muscle cramps up after the first 30 mins of riding. Miss the old twisty from the CR250... :D
