: Teixeira Tech Steering Stem
TeixeiraTech 01-18-2011, 01:10 AM I just realized that I never put up a thread about the Teixeira Tech Honda 700XX Steering Stem. Our steering stem is offered in +0, +1, and +2 sizes. The flag has been redesigned and repositioned for over 50% reduction in bumpsteer and a sharper turning radius. Please see our website for current pricing and colors offered.
I have attached a pic of the complete stem and 2 others that display the nickle color and black wrinkle color. The close ups also let you see the quality of the work and some of the machining we have done on a couple of the pieces to try and keep the stems as light as possible.
Red-N-BlackXX 01-18-2011, 04:27 AM Hey Ed I'm curious to know the differences in your +1 stem and the houser +1 stem.

There you go. :)
TeixeiraTech 01-18-2011, 09:13 AM I've never had a Houser stem here so I don't really know the difference in performance. I can tell you that the tie-rod ends on our Teixeira Tech stem mount from the top like stock.
Red-N-BlackXX 01-18-2011, 09:18 AM Ok, i know the houser was designed to reduce bumpsteer as well. Just wondering if yours would be better at it?
Red-N-BlackXX 01-18-2011, 09:19 AM Maybe Doug will chime in? He's probably used both!
92K1500 01-18-2011, 09:20 AM If Ed wants to send me one I can test it against a Houser +1 and write a review. :D

I really don't know. I guess I'm a horrible salesman because I don't like to claim a bunch of stuff that I don't know for a fact. So I might not make a sale or two, but at least I'm selling with honosty. I'm not saying this in any way as an attack. I just don't know what the competitors are doing so I don't know how mine compares. I just know what my stem does. Over 50% bumpsteer reduction and a sharper turning radius. I don't know if Baxter has used any other stems, but he has one coming from me. Maybe he can give an honost opinion if he has used others.

D Bergstrom 01-18-2011, 12:34 PM Stems look good Ed, looks like the design has changed slightly from my 450R stem. Can't wait to see one in person.
Maybe Doug will chime in? He's probably used both!
I have ran Houser stem’s before on my 450R’s (still have a Houser stem on my 250R), but I also ran their a-arms with it, now I run Ed’s arms and stem, so I can’t compare just the stem alone. Knowing Ed’s attention to detail the way I do though, I know he didn’t just settle for something, he worked at it and tried different combinations until he found what worked the best.
The one thing I do like better about Ed’s stem compared to the Houser Stem is the anti vibe portion. Ed uses Honda oem rubber bushings (from the dirt bikes) while Houser uses their own bushings. I can get the bushings Ed uses from any Honda shop, while I have to call Houser direct to get theirs. I am sure Ed can go into more detail on his bushing setup, but it really is a better design once you see the two compared to each other.
I have also had a problem with the Houser bushings becoming loose and developing some play in them. It’s almost like the sleeve Houser includes is just slightly too long and once the rubber bushings “set”, you can not tighten the nut enough to compress the bushings to take the play out. I have had to use a washer to compress the bushings more to make up for this, had to do this on every Houser stem I have ever owned. This happens pretty quick also, I can install new bushings and within a couple of rides they are loose, have always had this problem since day one. The extra washer did solve it though, but I really have to compress the bushings, may be taking some of the anti vibe effect out.
Personally, I think they are both great products, but Ed’s attention to detail is the reason I prefer his stem.
Doug
Baxter 01-18-2011, 03:16 PM I fitted the houser stem but never rode with it , but sure could come up with some sort of test to compare the stems for bumpsteer etc.
Baxter 01-23-2011, 11:46 AM Is the stem the same diameter as the stock or would I have to use a differant clamp for the steering stabilizer ?

If someone really needs the same diameter, I can custom build for an additional cost. Production stems will be 1.25" diameter clamp, which is the same as the Yamahas.
ranger19jn 01-23-2011, 11:14 PM looking good Ed
mustangGH 01-25-2011, 10:27 PM we def need a couple of these jeff
Baxter 02-12-2011, 02:13 PM Just got my +2 stem today, Doug's right about the attention to detail on both the a-arms and stem.
Real nice piece of kit, post pics shortly.
Cheers Ed
Baxter 03-16-2011, 06:34 PM Got the parts from Ed and fitted them. The bars are about 1" lower than stock.Everything fit like it should (no sledge hammer needed).

phil520 06-07-2011, 03:39 AM Baxter where did you get the alloy clamp for the steering stem??,i`m just about to fit up a plus 2 stem and wouldn`t mind having something like that as well?
Red-N-BlackXX 06-07-2011, 08:55 AM Teixeira tech anti vibe clamp

Its a Lonestar Racing 450r Ali stem clamp. The 700xx and 450r use the same stem bush and clamp.
Britalican 04-15-2012, 11:15 PM ok, so I bent my steering shaft, and I am trying to decide if I want to just get the oem stem for $199, or if I want to get the +1 Teixeira stem for a little more, but the big question is, is it bolt on like the stock stem? will I need additional parts to make everything fit? handle bar clamp, handle bars? Thanks for any help.
TeixeiraTech 04-16-2012, 11:16 AM If you purchase our anti-vibe stem, you will need bar clamps with it. You can then spicify the bar size that you are using and we can get you the right bar clamp. I will also need to know if you are running a steering stabilizer.
Britalican 04-16-2012, 06:29 PM I have no steering stabilizer. Can one be ran with this stem? how much is the bar clamp? I have stock bars now, and plan to get new ones, but prefer stock size.

Ed's stems for the 700xx are slightly smaller in diameter to the stock xx stem. He can build a stem the same diameter as the stock one ,that's why he asked about the stabilizer.
The bar clamps are $100 for either 7/8" or 1 1/8" clamps. That's the price I got from http://www.teixeiratech.com/products.asp?cat=43
The anti-vibe stem and clamps cut out alot of vibration on the 700xx and reduces the bumpsteer.
Britalican 04-16-2012, 09:21 PM ok, so from the website, and what i would need, it would be $355+ shipping. now i guess i just have to decide if less vibration and a cooler lookin stem and clamp are worth the extra $155. guess i have a few weeks to think about it while i come up with the money. Thanks for the responses.
TeixeiraTech 04-16-2012, 11:16 PM Baxter,
Thanks for answering the questions. I did not have time to beat you to it.
