Would it be possible to convert the XX to a SRA and would you be able to do the work if I got my XX to you?

just gonna throw this out ther but why not buy a full drag frame and all and just put the motor in it with fewer modifications and be way lighter.

The races I would race require it to be a stock frame plus I still want to be able to dune around a little. If I convert to a SRA I can do a +6 swing arm and that would be the perfect setup for me.

1 quick question , Why did you post this here in Ed's posties ?
Did you talk to Ed before posting about doing a SRA conversion kit ?

I'm asking Ed if he can do it, that’s why I posted it in his section.

What's going to be the benefits of the SRA? Are you just wanting to do this so you can stretch it easily?

I am just gonna take a guess and say the frame is gonna be no where near stock. From motor back will be all custom, custom swingarm to accept center drive chain. I would almost bet the front 1/2 of the frame would have to be somewhat redesigned around the motor to give proper support to swingarm. It would be easier to sretch the subframe back(that would move the carrier anlower a-arm locations back), and build some custom uppers to sweep back a little. That's what I was thinking in the 10 minutes I looked at the rear to see about lengthening. But I don't know what all that would take in designing/fabricating. But an sra swap I wouldn't think would be anywhere near cheap, buy a raptor for drags, jk..

Yes that and a SRA setup will be lighter

I'm pretty burried right now with projects. This is something that I would tackle if I were slow, but I am not at this time. My slowest times around July.

If would be best if you called in so that we can discuss exactly what you are trying to accomplish with this.

I will give you a call and see what we can figure out. Thanks

Dont get me wrong I love what you are doing with the XX but it seems to get where you really want to be with all this you might actually want to consider going to a Raptor or something. If all you are doing is duning and drag racing this isnt the ideal machine IMO.

If I would've known I was going to catch the drag racing bug I would've bought a raptor...and I'm probably still going to buy one. I like having something different than everyone else at the dunes and at this point it would be dumb to sell the xx so I figure ill just keep pushing forward and make what I have work for me.

Best performing and cost effective in the end would be a XR650R hybrid, and there are so few of them out there it would still be diffrent. An XR motor with an FCR carb tuned right will rip, and is a good 20lbs lighter than the xx motor. I would say if your gonna buy a raptor keep the xx for trails, but probably not many trails California.

Here is some pics that I have found that made me think ,it is possible.
Shock placement like this using 2 shocks
3163

Rear axle ,hub and rear of swingarm like this
3164

These are of a chassis bulit by W-Tech in Belgium.

The main problem is the swingarm front pivot, I have some more pics on the other computer, which I'll post if you want.

The most interesting design is a patented idea by Eyvind Boyesen , which used 2 pivot points on the front of the swingarm. One above the countershaft sprocket and one below. He designed a few years ago in the late 80's or maybe early 90's.

Thanks Lee  I've talked to few places and it looks like I'll be turning the XX into a SRA over the next few months.
