: Old fart installs some accessories

I know most of you guys won't be interested in this but if there are any old farts riding the xx on the trails like me, I decided to put this stuff on the quad.

AME heated grips - Easy install. Competitive price. Nice tacky feeling grip. 6 power levels. Auto off if battery capacity drops below 90%. Don't know if there will be more vibs since removing the fairly light stock bar end weights.

Quadboss rear rack - Easy install. No removal of stock parts other than 2 lower bolts on the grab bar. Price was right. Now there's more effort to remove/install seat. Large enough to strap on bigger stuff if necessary. Might look a bit dorky but I'm an old fart and don't care.

Sidewinder tank bag - Best feature is a can/bottle holder. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have bought it. Old farts need both hands on the bars. Holding a beverage in motion doesn't work well for me.

Put mirrors on - Like to know if anyone is behind me without having to stretch the old fart neck.

Thinking about a windshield but that might be going too far :)

Hopefully you guys can ride now where you are. I'm snow bound here right now. Right now I'll just stare at it in the garage and wait for spring.

xinu,
That small bag on the back looks great. Be sure to watch that dangling strap near your exhaust pipe. What, no nerfs yet?:lol:

Looks good and the xx can be anything you want it to be "BUT" staring at the xx and thinking of parts to buy. Gets expensive. lol.

Thanks for pointing the straps out Sid. I cut them off once I was sure that the bag was a keeper.

To Baxter's point, I think that's it for parts and stuff for now. But wait... anyone have an opinion on the Powermadd Sports windshield for the xx?

Are nerfs necessary for general trail riding? I kinda thought they would be a must for racing, aggressive riding and jumping.

Personally I do not like nerf bars. The down side is they catch a lot of debris from front tires, small branches and stuff get caught in the webbing, if there wider than the Atv you hit them on a lot of stuff. But the good is your ft aren't gonna get ran over if you slide off the peg, and they can be used as slides if the trail is so tight you have to slide around a tree.

Was the 1st thing I added to my 700. I cant afford to be off work with a busted up ankle. Although after 2 sessions of riding I dont think I have ever sliped off the foot pegs.

I have had my foot land in front of the peg. Which quickly results in the tire grabbing your foot and yanking you off the quad. I won't ride without nerfs. I just posted mine for sale though because i'm tired of my 23" tires rubbing them. 22" tires would have been fine, but the 23's rub. Great bars in the classified section. Check my sig for direct link.

oh... and i disagree with stuff getting stuck in them. I've never had that issue. I must be going to fast.

Yea 5WOP3 that’s exactly what I was afraid of. And its well worth the piece of mind having them. I probably don’t ride near as aggressive as some, but w/out nerfs I'd probably never left the ground, lol.

I think I understand the safety benefits of nerfs as described in previous posts. Knowing how overly safety conscious Honda is, I figured if Honda didn't provide nerfs in stock configurations then they probably would not be required for the average rider. Maybe the utility market is where most of Honda's safety effort is concentrated and not so much on sport quads for obvious reasons. I'll have to think about it a bit more.

Helmets didn't come with them either... just saying... lol

A lot of having nerf bars is also confidence. But like you siad, it depends on how you ride.

Nerfs were also the very first thing I installed on both my 700xx's. Even with mild riding on the trails around here, I still ran over my foot a number of times when slipping off the peg.

I like the rack you installed on your 700xx. I always wondered what that rack looked like on a 700xx. How durable is it? Any issues other than the seat is a bit harder to install?

I thought the same thing. Probably makes good handles for a passenger. Wonder if its strong enough to put a deer on.

I get tired of lugging all my crap around in a backpack on long trail rides. It would be nice to have something like that to strap all my stuff on and possibly a rifle.

I dunno if it would handle the weight and size of a deer though. But you never know.

The rack should be able to support at least as much weight as the grab bar it bolts on to. As well the rack also bolts to frame where the grab bar mounts. I'll include some pictures and you can judge for yourself.
