Baxter, you said you have a lot of ideas. Can you list them, maybe we can feed off them and come up with some other stuff as well.
Heres some I am going with.

Swaybars front and rear.Probably Sonic
18" tires all round for TT
20" tires all round for MX but my go to 18s if I can find some.
450r front shocks resprung on front for TT
Laeger +2 LT front a-arms for both.
No fan or thermostat housing.
No front fenders or chicken wings.
+2 stem with 11/8 Cr Hi bend bars.
There is some more ideas but can't think of the at the moment.
There is some more radical mods which would help , but not going to try till later this year. Too many races and not enough time. :D

Look at a better radiator, I am getting ready to do the same, need to keep it cooler when the temp goes up!

DMC build a larger radiator for 700xx . As for the fan I was going to remove all of it. The UK is alot cooler temps and run without it.

There is better places to cut weight that the fan and shroud Bax! I would not do that!

The plastic around the fan blades that directs air through the radiator. My initial post I didn't realize you meant you were removing the entire fan.

Edit: After looking at the XX fan there is really no actual shroud, just a cage. Either way, I'd run a gauge and auto kill switch if you run without a fan.

I was going to rig up a temp sensor and light , to keep an eye on temps. I understand where you are coming from. On the 450r I only run a fan if its muddy.

How about a lightweight battery or no battery.

You could loose the starter for that matter.

They sell a kick start kit that could be configured for the XX, You would remove the center cover plug on the left crankcase. Back out the allen screw and insert the special stud. The kickstart slips over the stud and is spring loaded to eject the kickstarter when the motor fires.

Carbon wheels

Billet aluminum axles

Lighter tires

Gutted exhaust canister

Aluminum Handle Bars

Remove light assemblies (front and rear)

Aluminum pegs

Lighter Shocks

Aluminum Motor mounts ( Two at the top rear, Two at the bottom front)

etc etc etc

I dont know about the fan though. On my 450R that I did motos with, the fan would never come on, so I could remove it. But that was on dry days. On wet ones, a little bit of debris (ie mud) would get into the front of the radiator and then the fan would be on non-stop, however my other 450r that I rode for anything and everything else, the fan seemed to be on no matter what. I checked both motors and wiring, and even swapped out the temp sensors, and it didn't matter. They were both completely different. I would suggest running with the fan, b/c overall it is not that much weight, and if you think about it, while you are running MX and TT, you are pushing the rev limiter a lot (maybe not an old fart like you hehe j/k), so your engine will be running hot no matter what. If you are to remove it, I would highly recommend running it with it for a moto (say a practice one before the season) just to see if the fan kicks on. If by chance it does, I would leave it. It's just my opinion, but I would hate to read another thread where the club's favorite hero from England was in first place but had to shut his quad off due to it overheating on the last lap and had a DNF.
