I was offered an awesome deal on a scrambler but I don't know much about them. Could any of you guys that owned one give me some feedback. I'm picking it up as an extra bike for the kids and fiance to ride.

My cousin had one, and a few buddies had them. Worst quad I've ever seen. Keep some money stashed away for parts & repairs.
I think this is the case with ALL PooLaris's. I have 4 buddies that have newer model polaris's (2008-2010) and they are ALWAYS working on them, just random stupid stuff.

Is that a 2 stroke? I know alot of the old 400 were. Well I have a 4 stroke 500 4x4. And you can litterly beat the stank out of it, and it keeps runing. My cousin has a 199? 400 2x4 2 stroke runs stoung. Only thing I've had to replace on my 01 was tires, breaks, cv boots, hub seals, front sprocket, and one half shaft. Not to bad, for a 10 year old quad.

Never had one, but I have rode with quite a few. Only things I remember standing out were the first gen belts got wet easy and one guy had his oil injector quit and blew it up. Those things were the shit for mud drags back in the day.

I went ahead and purchased it. I paid $1000, it has allot of new performance parts, cranks with just a bump of the starter and runs excellent. It came with another identical bike that was tore down to be rebuilt but they didn't have the money to finish. I'll prolly rebuild and keep it also. Some reason I really like these particular quads, they'll make good bikes for the fiancé and my son.

I just bought a 2005 Polaris Scrambler 500 HO 4x4 for my wife and I love driving it. It goes over logs very easy. I have $3000 into it and everything works great. I ride it more than my wife does. I think you got a good buy for $1000. I sold a 1999 Kawasaki Bayou 300 4x4 for that much last year.

Good deal! And yea my 01 turns right over too, I'd say it fires alot faster than the trx. I passed mine down to son awhile back, and the wife rides it sometimes. I'm sure your family will get good use out of it for no more than what you have in it.

After a few weekends on this bike I'm glad I picked it up. It has an HPD trail kit and is a blast to beat on, Have to see how it holds up in the long run. I'm not a fan of Polaris but this particular quad has won my favor.

just met a friend of a friend this weekend at the dunes, and he has this quad (not sure what year). It broke down after about 20 min and spent the day on the trailer. Idk what was wrong with it though, I never asked. He did comment that he hasnt had any problems with it before, his wife really likes the quad though.

check + change the counterbalancer oil once in a while, stock pistons have weak skirts put a wiseco in and add a cylinder girdle kit and your good to go. Also check out gen3usa.com very good quad I've had a few. I recommend ritter cycle racing for motor mods.

One problem is when the belt gets wet, she slips. Other thing to watch out for, don't hit the "override" button in reverse w/ WOT, otherwise she can go extremely fast backwards. Only real problem the one I used to ride w/ had besides slipping is sometimes backing up to unlock the hubs, it would stick. But it was pretty fast. Good buy I think.
