Has anyone used any coolant additives like Engine Ice or Red Line's Wetter Water?

I'm getting my quad ready for the summer heat riding and racing here in California and need some insight and recommendations.

I have always used Water Wetter in all my bikes and qauds. Mix 40% Prestone, 60% distilled water and the recomended amount of Water Wetter. There has only been one time I have ever had an overheating problem on one of my quads, but that was an over 100 degree day and I packed the radiator full of mud. Other then that, no problems, but since I have always ran that mix, don't really have anything to compare to, bike/quad wise.

Last summer though I flushed the cooloing sustem in my truck. Always used just a regular 50/50 mix in my vehicles, but this time I decided to use the same mix in my truck as the quads. My truck now runs a full one to two needle widths cooler on the temp gauge while moving. Stopped for a while in high heat, it will creep up to about the middle of the gauge and there it stays. With the old 50/50 mix, the temp gauge would creep up slowly the entire time I was stopped. Once I started moving, it did go back down, but very slowly. With the Water Wetter mix, it drops right down as soon as I start moving. That shows me the the Water Wetter must be doing something.

Thanks. I just bought a bottle of Wetter Water yesterday. Should have enough in that single bottle for my quad and truck. I was just worried about something my friend told me about Wetter Water causing crystals to form in the colling system.

I have heard that before also. I have been using the stuff in my bikes/quads for over a decade and I have never experienced anything like that. Funny thing is, I hear people saying that hey have "heard" that, but when asked, no on ever seems to know anyway that is has actually happened to.

This means I get to flush my cooling system now... I'd already added some Wetter Water. But, I'll flush it out and use Engine Ice.

Guess I am kind of confused on why you say this, it is designed to be used with coolant, so why make sure the system is free from coolant, shouldn't matter. Yes, it cools better when mixxed with just water (no freeze protection though), but there is a benefit when mixxed with both coolant and water also, just not as much.

As I said, been using the stuff for over a decade and have never seen any ill affects, and my motors come apart alot. That being said, I have only used the stuff with Prestone, maybe other brands of coolant have some addtional ingredient that causes the crystals.

Just be carful in the cold, engine ice freezes quite a bit sooner than any other antifreeze, Maxima coolanol is really good. Check it out if u havent seen it.

Well, don't have to worry about that here in California. Doesn't get that cold here. I only rode once in cold temps and that was in Nevada at my brother's. That was about 25 degrees.
