like the title says should i spend the 130 and get the ehs or should i just run with no lid? Does the ehs really make that big of a difference and does it keep the dirt and water out? Thanks Dann

haha well, Ive found what Scuzz once said he found, when you run through water, it seems to run straight to the air box opening, and im sure if you have no lid, its going to go right into the filter, also, when i rode with the stock lid, my filters got packed full of mud after like 3 rides. the EHS lid basically fixed all that for me, ive had it for like 3 rides and my filter looks basically new still, and also, if your worried about the 130$ fee, they sell just the kit for $95, thats what i did, you just have to line it up and cut your own hole, and drill the holes for the bolts, it took me like 30 minutes maybe to cut the lid and put it together. worth it to me to se like 40 bucks.

but as for running without a lid, i guess it depends on what you do, i would say no if your in: Mud, water, sand, dirt trails, an race tracks even. if you ride on pavement im sure no lid would do great.

I'm thinking bout doin the same thing. But have also contemplated just drilling out the little one inch holes and popping in those inserts. I forget who makes em, and am too lazy to google it. But I had em on my suzuki and they made a little difference

I think it is Uni that makes the inserts, they are a waste of money IMO and will make tuning with the EFI contoller a pain as their is no uniform airflow. I would buy an outerwears airbox cover for the raptor 700, trim it to the size of the hole you want to cut. Get a flange to use as frame, use nuts and bolts or rivets to affix it (Do it like the EHS but should be a lot cheaper).

I am using the Velocity filter with an outerwear over it no lid. I don't ride in the mud. IMO The only thing a filtered lid does is keep mud and dirt from accumulating in the bottom of the filter box. I don't know the numbers here but I think I have more surface area on my air filter for the engine to breath than Than a closed lid with a smaller filter built into the lid. I just don't see it as a performance advantage. it still chokes the air flow down. If you choose to run a filtered lid why have a filter in the box?

I'll have to show you what fine silica dust looks like embedded in my filter even with the lid. The EHS lid keeps the other garbage out of my filter.

I bought the EHS full kit...FYI it does come ready to slap on right out of the box. So no work required for you. My buddy rides his TRX450R without a lid (just the filter with outerwears) but we only ride in the desert so it's not that big of a deal.

I have ridden with the lid off in the sand and I had about an inch of sand in the bottom of the box at the end of the day so I just pulled the plug on the box and no problums now. I have a k&n with an outerfilter
