I got an elka given to me. It was supposedly off of a 300ex. It's the rear shock, with no real. So I am thinking its just a stage 1. I am gonna put it on my sons 300ex. Only questions are is it a stage 1, how can I tell the weight It's for. And should I send it in for rebuild or anything.

I'd have to say it is indeed a Stage 1... Their other models all have a rezzie of some type, either a piggyback or remote. However, on the issue of if you need to re-build or not... You'd really need to know the weight and riding style of the person the shock was sprung and valved for. Not knowing this, it would be good to have the shock re-sprung and valved for your son. Example: If the shock was originally set up for an adult that weighed 250lbs, then it would be way too stiff for your son who would be considerably lighter.

I didn't know if there any numbers or anything I can email elka and find out. My sons a beginner and weighs around 110. But he is 12 and will be growing a lot through the next couple years. But he is helping me build his 400ex to get on when he gets better.

That makes sense. Best to set the shock up for his current weight... Because, by the time the shock would need to be upgraded to meet his growing, he'd also out grow the 300ex and want more power of the 400ex... or a 700xx... yours.
