I have yet to hear my electric fan turn on on my XX. Its been over 100 degrees nearly every day in august so its plenty hot for it to turn out but i havent head it. I know on my dads brute force 750 it runs, noticeably, all the time. This is the first liquid cooled quad ive owned so this is new to me. Should the fan be noticeable? and is there any way to check to see if its running?
I assume it is running because the overheating warning hasnt come on yet... unless thats broke too.
Thanks for any input

From my experience, the XX runs fairly cool. While riding in West Viriginia, my fan kicks on rarely on 90+ degree days. If i was riding slow, on the clutch alot and stuff it would come on occasionally, but not often. If im not mistaken the thermostat is set to kick it on when the temp reaches 219 degrees.

Its hard to tell when the fan is running be wise its pretty quiet and you can't really feel the air hit your legs when it comes on. Probly coming on more than you realize.

Thanks for the input, ill stop worrying about it. Just dont like the idea of burning down a brand new engine, although its under warranty for the next 4 years so I should be ok.

Check to see if the fan comes on whilst riding. I had a bad ECM and the only fault I found was the fan never came on. I had to pull the plug on the temp sensor near the thermostat to get it to come on.A little Mcgyver(?) moment.

Do you know if the fan was on when you turned the key off? If it was then I would guess it is normal because mine will do the same thing sometimes.

the fan is never on when i turn the key off, even after pretty long rides when the weather is really hot, thats kinda what made me start to worry about it. The fan on my dads brute force is always running when he turns it off, even if its a shorter ride. I know thats a v-twin so its hard to compare but it is what it is.

Brute forces have the fan wired so that it can run even with the key off. The xx is not, the key has to be on.

Yea get it good and hot, and then turn off with kill switch and see if you hear the fan. Cause I'm sure the fan will run with key on and kill switch off. Just not sure if thats a good idea to leave key on for long?

Depends on the kill switch. With the new ECM , the fan works with the key off. Kinda freaked a few people out at a XC race. So I guessing that the xx fan works the same as the Brute when working correctly. This is how my xx worked.

Baxter are you saying your fan works with the key off, because you replaced the original ECM with a newer one?

When I first got the xx , the fan would come on with killswitch pulled and ignition on. Then the ECM went south and wouldn't come on at all , unless I pulled the plug off the temp switch.
Fitted the new ECM and sometimes it stays on with the ignition off and sometimes the fan stops when I switch the ignition off.
I think it be a lose wire or something rather than a Honda design. I modded the wiring loom , so I could run without the light/starter cluster and roll-over cut out switch.
