these are new ... and will have to call and talk with Mark about purchasing them ... or Howie at Pompton Honda in Pompton Plains NJ.
Ill start by saying Fox Shox are relatively unknown on most circuits because of contracts with the associations.
Now .. aside from that ... the price is in par with any good shock (1500 retail per set)..but thats the only thing that is the same...
While looking at the shock you will be thinking "hey bro ..where is the coil" and you know .that coil is HEAVY. Its a beautiful thing not having a HEAVY coil on the front end of your machine.
The first time you pick up one of these shocks .. you kinda wonder if its even rugged enough to take the amount of abuse youre already dreaming of since you are the guy that just purchased 1500 shocks heh.
So ... installation is straight forward on the front ... jack up the front end of your 700xx ... where the wheels are off the ground ... get your 14mm wrench/socket ... unbolt the bottom bolt of the oem shock .. unbolt the top... pull out the shock. This is the shocker ...cause youre gonna think ... DAMN ..this OEM shock is heavy! and it is.
After briefing the manual/instructions that come with the fox shox youll find use with the mini bicycle pump looking thing. You unscrew the gold annodized cap labled EVO1 and add 100lbs of pressure. Dang 100lbs??> its only about 15 pumps and quite ez to accomplish.
ok ... so it comes with bushings .. you insert them on each side of the eye with a rubber gasket ..the top ones are very small in comparison to the bottom (i had to open the top bracket on my quad a hair so they would fit ..no biggie ..i used a set of channel locks and simply opened the bracket about .5mm) ..and im guessing its because these were the very FIRST shocks available from Fox. Now there is a roost guard that is mounted with 2 hex screws ... much like how roost guards mount on any handlebar.Rinse and repeat on the other side.
Im thinking the OEM shocks are good trout line weights now heh.
the fun begins now. There are actually 2 places to attach the air pump ... the main chamber and the evol chamber. The main chamber basically sets sag and the evol kinda smooths everything out ..like contrast on a tv. There is a knob all the way at the bottom for speed of rebound ... a flat head screw driver for slow speed dampening on the top ...and a bolt head around the slow speed dapener for high speed dapening ... yes a true FOUR WAY adjustable shock WITHOUT a HEAVY SPRING.
Rule of thumb is the front is 1/2 inch higher than the rear on a level surface ... which i wont get into how to measure ..but its pretty self explainatory.
Keep in mind ... once you have a shock installed that has a HEAVY SPRING ..youre stuck with it until you get another spring.... which means taking the entire shock off ... getting an expensive compression tool ..blah blah NO. Basically with those OTHER BRANDS you are relying on some guy on the telephone to send you the correct spring ..and your entire ride is dictated by that very guy on the phone. A fox air shox on the other hand ... 10 minutes of tinkering ... youre in business .. not a week .. not hundreds of dollars ..and possible bloody knuckles and bruised forearms later ... 10 minutes.
The fox shox beauty is this ... you can TOTALLY customize and tailor the way it responds to YOUR riding style. Its fun running it really low pressure and bouncing all around .. laughing to yourself thinking this is crazy ... wondering what happens if you add 10lbs of air pressure ... cranking the knobs 2 clicks ..so you do it ... wow this is nice and it feels better ... lets add some more air ... maybe another crank or 2 on the dampening ... HOLY CRAP this thing is great ... maybe add more air .. or let a bit out... eventually with either trial and error like me ...or you being a pro at it ... you will find your "sweet spot"
its that simple ... so youre out for a ride over some huge boulders ... let out most of the air pressure ...and your shocks will flawlessly move wth little resistance ... get over the boulders ..air them up again ... simple.
dont forget that 10-15lbs you just saved by replacing the coiled shocks with the floats either.
These things really shine. I promise.
