I purchased my XX used so I don't know if there is supose to be a handle to control the fuel valve. I can see the valve under the tank but it seems way back in there and not easy to get to. Am I missing some linkage? All I can see is a small square drive on the valve. Is there 3 positions? Is there a reserve? Also, I removed the seat looking for the tool pouch/owners manual and didn't see it. Does anyone know where to look for it? The owners manual would definitely help. Thanks.

I would say the fuel lever has fallen off. A few guys here have had the same problem.
You would need to order:
16963-HP6-AOO Lever, Petcock
90116-GF8-OOO Screw
Apply a dab of medium strength Loctite to the screw , when fitting and you should be alright.

Sallyman,
While you are installing the fuel valve plastic handle you will probably want to put a small dab of BLUE Loctite on the threads of the screw in the center.
"Baxter" mentioned "medium". If you ("Sallyman") are not familiar with the Loctite products, DO NOT use the "Red".
Baxter, I am not trying to "steal your thunder" but as you look through the myriad of thread securing products available on the market, I would be concerned that the wrong material could be used.

Anyone have any recomendations for where to buy OEM parts?
Well, besides your local stealership, you could go to....
http://www.babbittsonline.com/
For OEM everything. Yes, I know that I stole the term "stealership" from another person's post, but the term is accurate... so I used it.

P.S. I just checked babbits and the fuel lever and screw are $14.87 plus shiping... if those are the parts you were referring to anyway.

1. Yes, there is 3 positions for the fuel valve. OFF (pointed back @
3 o'clock), RESERVE (pointed up @ 12 o'clock) and ON (pointed down @ 6 o'clock)

2. If you want the owners manual, PM me with your address and I'll send you mine. I never use it, I put a small first aid kit in it's place under the seat. Of more use is the service manual... you can download all 517 pages of it from the web for $5.00 in .pdf format. There was a thread containing the link here on the forum someplace. The service manual is well worth the $5.00 to download.
