If your bike won't start how can you tell its backfiring? And as said above the battery is probably dead. To prevent this you gotta charge the battery once a week or so over winter and run the quad every now and then or the battery will completely die. I've made the mistake of not charging batteries...its no fun spending $90 for a new one in the spring.
