i went riding today just to get some practice laps getting ready for a 4hr enduro. everything was going good, the motor feels like its loosening up more and more.

...now for the bad...my seat kept coming loose. granted it was a rough track, but not that rough. i couldnt tell if it was coming loose when i was sitting down or when i was standing up. i only noticed it when standing up. after the 2nd time it happened i made sure the latch was all the way in the foward position. then it happened two times after that:steamed: not really the most confidence inspiring feeling. needless to say i will have to rig it so it doesnt happen when im racing sunday.

anyone else have this happen? the quad has never been wrecked and is only on its 4th or so tank of fuel. i will call the dealership to see if there is anything they can do about it, or if they have a service bulletin out on it...

I've never heard of this on a Honda let alone a XX.

If both latches are on properly then the seat is flexing in the middle. If it's flexxing in the middle then its not seated on the side plastics and over the frame rails somewhere. Are the plastics on straight?.......

i know...usually this only happens to suzukis and other lower quality brands.

all plastics are straight. as i said its only on its 4th tank of gas. it is flexing in the middle enough to leave marks from the bottom of the seat on the airbox lid.

guess i will have to do the hood pin trick but will want to keep the tail light on. gonna have to figure out another way.

man, zip-tie that sucker and ride it, lol...

honestly though, i wiegh 220lbs and hammer my seat jumping and wheelying, i stand on it, use it for a ladder, ride passengers, slide backward and forward, hang way out over my front tires with my one knee digging into it and my other hanging on the other side of it, even mount it like a horse sometimes running full speed and land sitting down and it never came loose yet. i did however put it on wrong once and lost one of the damn rubber donuts that go on the frame. Hope you find the problem or at least a decent bandaid !!!

right on man i ride EXTREMELY hard too.

i did notice that one of the rubbers was missing. i just figured it came out after the seat was coming loose.

i did tap the latching "u" on the rear of the subframe back towards the rear of the machine to get it closer to the stock latch. i will replace the rubber and do some cobbing to the rear plastic nipples that go through the rubber grommets on the rear of the seat for the race. im not going to give it a chance to come loose at the race but i am running out of time to test it before the weekend.

i will ride it without the cobbing after the race to see if tapping the "u" foward and a new (off one of my trikes as they are the same) forward rubber piece will be suffice.

I do remember the first BITD race Wayne ran with his 700XX. Seat was falling off after the first lap and they wrapped duct tape around the seat and plastics to hold it on. After that Wayne came up with the hood pin idea.

I only have a few rides on my 700XX, but I have not had a problem yet. Figure once I get the suspension and motor done and can ride the quad more agressively, it will become a problem. I will come up with some type of secondary latch on mine just in case.

i have contacted my dealer, they looked and there is no bulletin out there on it. they said they will let the dealer rep know and send me a new rubber grommet that fell out one of the times the seat loosened up.

i will have some pix of what i am doing to fix it up for my up coming enduro.

Darn, i bought a bag of those rubbers of ebay for 6 bucks was hoping to sell you one...:lmao:

My seat is rubbing the airbox, but it's not loose at all ? Was looking at it today though and i think i'm going to put a safety on to make sure it doesnt happen...Imagine losing that thing in 5th gear or worse yet air getting under it and it coming up into your jewels....EEK !!!
