hey guys newer to ATVing, maybe only 20 hours or so lifetime total on one, only ridden utility style quads w/ 4 wheel drive, as that is what everyone in my family has. however i think the sporty models look like a lot more fun, and it looks like you can get a 08 TRX700XX for around ~4k OTD right now I was wondering if you guys think its a huge mistake for a noobie? also correct me if I'm wrong but getting it for ~4k should leave me with decent resale value in a couple years if I don't roll it or anything right? oh also I should add I'm going to be running it with a lot of utility quads, so doing a lot of trails, not so much in the dunes, IRS sounds appealing for that use

Thanks in Advance! - Great forum you have here!

I have run with utility quads before with no problems. The xx goes anywhere and does it with comfort. I do have more experience with atv's but I think this bike is a great choice for you. You don't have to romp on it all the time. As long as you take your time and get to know the xx I think that you will be fine with it. It does have a lot of power when needed but but you can also put around with it. My suggestion is to go to the dealership and take it for a spin. Than you will see for yourself. Good luck.

I agree with Scuzz. That is one hell of a deal to pass up as well for one hell of a machine. I would definitely recommend staying away from any uphill climbs until you get used to using the clutch. If you aren't use to a clutch and drop it while going uphill you could be rolling head over heals back down. Al it will take for you is getting a feel for the quad and you'll be just fine. If you have never driven a cluth dropping down to a 13T sprocket would really help you out as well.

The 700xx is my first quad and I have no regrets! Its a learning process and this quad makes it easy for you...it has enough power, is easy on the body and has the best ground clearance...its an awesome machine! You will get your money's worth for sure! I do trail riding and 13t helped a lot. As for the others you ride with, it plays well with utility and other sport quads :)

The xx was my first quad. It is easy to get used to (took me maybe 2 hours and i felt like a pro). Go for it!!

Oh, and it also hangs with 4wd quads easy!!

I've ridden friends quads for ages but, this 700xx is the first one i've ever owned. Thankfully I have great friends who don't encourage me to go past my technical limits and got me used to the bike before going crazy. Now that I'm used to the bike it's an animal. It's a great bike because it can cover all aspects from novice to pro.

I have ridden Utility Quads for most of my total riding time. I got a 700xx a few weeks ago. It is like daylight and dark compared to my Honda Foreman 450es...The 700 will set you back in the seat and take off !!! The power of this machine is Crazy. I caught myself nailing the gas like I do on the 450es and the front tires come up everytime. I just have to be easy on the gas and take my time. I have ridden the 700 for a few hours and it is fun to drive. If you decide to get one just take your time with it and don't nail the gas hard...I am going to stay on flat ground and trails that are easy till I learn the machine better and the clutch. This is my 1st ATV with a clutch and I am learning....I can drive the crap out of a 5 speed in a car so I can kind of relate in the two...If you get one get on of your buddies to take you out and one on one help you get used to the machine.

I am gonna give a different perspective than everyone else. To start I own a Rincon and a 700xx, both have 10" clearance and both have IRS just give you some background. If your mostly riding with utility quads it really depends on what your riding if the xx is the quad for you. The 700xx is very fast and because of ground clearance it has the ability to get over some really knarly terrain and does pretty well in mud. But I can't help but think that if you are on some wide open rolling trails your going to be miles ahead of the group or stuck in the back bored out of your mind. If your doing alot of technical riding, uphills, and mud/water on the trail maybe a Rincon might be the way to go. Before you totally write it off, I rode my Rincon for a couple years now and it is amazingly nimble and quick. Leaves other utilities in the dust on tight trails and its snappy enough you can easily wheelie it in 1st and tops at 64mph. In 2002 the Rincon won the Baja 1000 too, so it really is the ultimate sport/utility, but leans more to the sport side. At the end of day the Rincon is very comfortable and will keep you alot drier in the wet spots. I bought my 700xx cause I love the power/speed, I switch between the two depending on conditions. I don't really have to list all the pros of the xx cause everyone else has pretty much done that.

My first too. Lot's of power, climbs like a mountain goat. I can't ride it slow though. Too much fun pushing my limits. I'm getting better every ride. I get invited to ride with my neighbor and the ATV club but they're more into journeys than aggressive riding. With my new exhaust, air filter and programmer this thing is a beast. For me the XX wants to be ridden fast and furiously.
