Intake Lid

Im reading a lot of people taking off the air intake lid on their Hondas. I get the benefits, but what are the drawbacks to this? Does this increase the likelihood of dirt in the engine? etc.

If you run with no lid at all, you will be changing or cleaning your filter before a whole day of riding. Especially in dusty areas. No lid does flow more air, but you need to increase fuel to get the full benefit from it, like with a Power Commander. I went with these guys. They modify a lid, complete with filter material, ready to bolt on. This cover is almost waterproof and keeps the inside of the airbox much cleaner. WWW.EHSracing.com

I bought an EHS cover as well. Nice product with the benefit of an open box and with that Outerwear top it keeps stuff out.

Dave,

did they just cut out a square and use the outerwears material to cover up the whole? What kind of filter do you have? Whats the bottom of that lid look like?

I am running the Velocity filter set-up. Here is a link to some good pics of the lid. The only change i made to mine once i got it was to seal a little around the aluminum frame that holds the Outerwear material on. Its 100 percent waterproof now

I've been looking at that... I'd think it'd be pretty easy to make, no?
I would think so too. I went wwith thiers because I didnt know what size to cut the opening or anything like that. Now that I have one, it sems like an easy mod, other than the snorkle block-off plate. I would just make an Outerwears cover for that too

Either that or "Great Stuff!" would probably work well. I'd think this would work well if you happen to sink your quad. I know its not water poof, but if its water resistant it might at least not suck any water through the snorkel.
