Why isn't this the most popular quad ever produced? I'm serious. Honda deserves a round of applause for building this thing.

Went for a quick ride up in the mountains this afternoon. I'm sold on this IRS. I hit an easy rated atv/Jeep trail. I was just flat out flying through the trees. Articulated erosion spots, boulders, roots whatever it was so comfortable. I went on to a couple of spur trails that were so rough that I wouldn't have even considered it on my Raptor. The XX did awesome.

My only two dissapointments at this point is 1. You can't lug this motor like the Raptor. Even in first gear you have to be rolling fairly quick or the motor just dies. 2. Reverse is way too freaking high of a gear. I don't need to do 20mph in reverse.

Closing statement: I loved my Raptor and am glad I owned it, but I will never go back after riding the XX. This is my future here. I wish the rest of the world knew how awesome this machine is. Then we would have way more aftermarket support.

easystreet,
I experienced the same thing with my 700XX the first time I rode it. After installing the 13 tooth counter sprocket I fell in love with the machine.

Yea 13t front sprocket it will pull and idle in 2nd. I know stock it wouldn't in 1st gear. And once you get good and stuck and need some power to back out, you will hear the rev limiter easy. After or before that find thread and bypass the reverse limiter. Its just a matter of cutting and splicing 2 wires. Hard part is taking nose off to get at ecu. Don't for get to get a uni filter when your factory one needs cleaned, just toss it aside. Glad your enjoying the BEAST!

Someone needs to tell this to the bean counters at Honda. They finally do something innovative, that is more than just 'bold new graphics' but, then give up on it too soon.

If you ride the mountains in kentucky I say it's a must have. The smaller rear tires help I'm sure, For around $20.00 just try it and test it out. It gives tons more low end for chugging threw creek beds, and when climbing. Also will pull wheels easier, and wind out faster. Although I've never got mine to wind out in 5th.

Awesome indeed, only reason(s) this bike is not one of the most popular ever built is Dirtwheels, atv action and Quad ( when it was printed ). They didn't like it beacause it was different intead of the other cookie cutter bikes..... they said they didn't like it in the sand, so what? who needs ground clearance in the sand ?,put it in the woods rocks and mud for where it was intended and see how it does..

I have not really noticed the low end issue yet all though I only have 3 hours on the bike so far, I will ride it a bit more and then see if I will need to change to a 13tooth.

I had heard rumors that Honda was going to re-release the 700xx as there were parts show on some 2013 parts lists but it appears that is not to be for 2013 as Honda has already released there official 2013 line up. But I still don't give up hope that we may se it re released next year as long as the economy picks up a bit. Also for all the looking I have done I have only found a couple brand new 700XX's left anywhere in the US. As for the East Coast the only new one I could find besides the one I bought was in Mississippi and that was a month ago, who know if it is even still available. So anyway my point is that if all the bikes are sold then maybe Honda will be willing to start production again.
Everything I have read and now that I have riden a 700xx I feel that it is by far the best sport/trail bike available.

Maybe the site administrator could draw up a petition for us all to sign and send it to Honda. Tell them to keep building them. Only next time, add dual exhaust ports! :) I miss my dual pipe look.

easystreet, you have to do the 13t for up here.Terrain and altitude make life much easier with it. Also, the quad gets 1000 times better once you upgrade the front shocks. Even the cheap DS shock upgrade is sweet.

Thanks for the input Mav! I will be getting the 13. I was definitely having some trouble in a couple of boulder fields and I'm not a fan of ruining clutches. I am planning on getting some Motowoz front shocks. I called to order them and was told 5-8 weeks turnaround. Ouch! I have little to no patience. Do you still have your XX? I have a couple friends that I need to convince about the XX here.

I have taken my XX out on the mining trails around Colorado and was very impressed with how well it took to the terrain changes and stream crossings. I was more than able to keep up with the rest of the 4X4 utility quads and even passed a few which suprised even them. Glad you like your new toy, now just trying to find others to go riding with is the other half of the problem.

I have had my xx since May 2008 with over 100 hours and no problems at all! I ride in West Va. and Pennsylvania where the trails are really rocky and rutted and I love the XX. I too can't understand how this quad has'nt taken off.

I owned a straight axl quad before the xx and would never go back!

I hope we can all keep this atv alive, I see the after market starting to dry up for the XX.

Sweet. Glad your sold on it... All report the 13T spricket is the only way to live, but after purchasing some 10" DWS wheels with 20" ITP holeshots, I had to put the 12T back on. Too much low end !!!!!!!!!

Humm  the 12t would be more low end than 13t. And a 14t is what Honda put on the XX from the factory!
