I just got my 700xx about two weeks ago. I've ridden her for a grand total of about 1/2 hour so far. My brother in law did me the favor of entering me in drags coming up over labor day. I need some advice:
1- what's the best way to launch this thing?
2- I've had many drag cars, but never a quad- do you powershift these things, or not?
3- Anything in particular besides a brain-bucket that they'll be looking for in tech (if there's even a tech inspection)?
Any tips so I don't embarrass myself would be appreciated.

Okay, first of all get some hours on the machine before this weekend and then change the oil before you do, b/c you will be riding up high in the revs for atleast one run that way you can break the engine in some. Secondly, if it is stock, what I used to do to try to keep the front end down is ratchet strap the front down and compress the shocks, so there is more weight towards the front so you are less likely to pop it up during take off and shifts. Thirdly, depending on what the drag is on...dirt/clay....if you take out some air of the rear tires, down to 2-3 pounds it will allow it for more traction. Other than that, I would practice some launches, starting in first and second, see what one you like and what is faster. On this machine, if it is stock gearing, first should do. Also, use 93 octance, or higher, that would help a tad, be sure the air cleaner is very clean for most air flow, and then make sure the engine is at operating temp before you pull just like you would in your cars. Another thing to do is run it around and see where the shift points should be for every gear (i.e. where it still revs up a tad but not pulling anymore). You can opt to use your clutch for everyshift, or not, that is up to you. I personally usually do b/c I dont think I lose any time by using it, and I just keep it pinned pretty much the whole time. Also, use your body to help w/ the front end down, plant your heels in the guards and hang over the gas tank/bars as much as possible.

you would think, which is why a wheelie bar would be great. But if you transfer any weight back, you are going to wheelie, which means you have to let off the gas to bring it down. Hope that makes sense.

I'll have to agree with crwh45, you need to keed the front end down having to let off is a killer, the XX should have plenty of traction, if needed as he said let some air out of your tires, you don't want them hard or you will spin, sit forward at the launch, I would start in 2nd and short shift the bike, let the torque do its thing, after the launch shift your weight back over the rear tires. Be safe.
