Does anyone else have low-to-zero oil readings when your XX sits for days in the garage? I pulled the dipstick and found oil on it the initial pull, wiped it off, screwed it in, rechecked it, and it shows nothing.. This has happened multiple times, and I'm just curious, since the quad doesn't burn or leak oil, where is it? Dry sump engines usually hold at least 80% of the oil in the reservoir. The engine should only have a coating on upper internals and a small amount in the would-be sump. Hopefully someone can inform me of what I'm missing here: I've put maybe 15-18 hours on this one since I got it. What gives?:confused:

Do you do wheelies? If so check your air box see if any oil is in it. Other than that it must be leaking or burning it. Do you have normal oil readings when doing the proper oil checking procedure? Which would be starting the bike for 3-5 minutes then waiting 1-2 minutes after shutting down then checking. If so my guess is the oil is sitting in your motor, though I'm not sure how much is in there when cold because I've only checked my oil the proper way.

The engine oil drains into the bottom end of the engine and will be pumped into the external oil reservoir when the engine is started. The owner’s manual will guide you in that process. It recommends that you run the engine for about 5 minutes but you will have better success if you take the machine out for a short time and let it sit for just a minute or two after returning. Check the oil and low and behold there is oil on the dipstick. Do not overfill the external tank or you will have a mess in the air box.
When changing oil don't over fill. Put in 2 Quarts and leave it at that. Make sure to drain all three locations (oil container, engine lower end and oil filter)

Just to put in "English". The oil seeps past the oil pump over time. This is normal . the xx engine is has 2 oil pumps. 1 to feed the motor and the 2nd to feed the oil tank.

If you are worried that you're motor has no oil on the dipstick and kinda not wanting to run it, Honda had a back up plan. There's a oil check level bolt near the rear brake pedal and reverse linkage.If oil "gushys" out then it is safe to run for a few minutes ,then check the dipstick. If you still have no marks on the dipstick ,then you have a problem.
Also on a side note is that ,I run 2100ml or 2.1 litres in the engine and my air filter stays clean. If you have alot of engine oil on the air filter then the motor got too hot. This is through personnel expierience and only my word to back it up.
