hey guys,

I have an 06 cbr 1000 and I'm in desperate need of a new back tire as the wires will be showing soon on the current one. It will be my first time to buy a tire for it so I wanted to get some opinions before i went and bought one. Right now, I am running a set of michelin pilot powers 195 55 zr 17's and they have lasted a pretty good while and seem to be a pretty popular tire. I know that the type of riding has a lot to do with which tire is best so i'll add that. I mainly ride on straight roads, but i do like to hit the curves on it. I do not consider myself to be an aggressive rider and i dont fly around on it or take curves at ridiculous speeds, but of course i do open it up every now and then. thanks in advance for your opinions!

oh and does it matter if the front and back tires are mismatched?

The pilots are hard to beat. I think if you can afford them & if they last you for a good while well I'd go with that choice. The only thing I found on mine is that they didn't last too long that being because of the tires softer compound + the way I ride & they were more expensive then most of the other brands but definitely a very good tire, one of the best you can put on there.

I would go with the Pilots again, too. I've never ran them, but for the price and performance of them, they are a great tire. I ran Avon Storm tires on my GSXR 750, and they lasted quite a while, they are a sport touring tire, and performed good too, but they were expensive.

Bridgestone BT016. I also have an 06 CBR1000RR and currently running these and love them. I have used Pirelli Diablo Corsa 3's, Power Pilots, Power Pilots 2CT and Conti race Attacks and have to give it to the BT016's as the best option for the street.

If I had to rank them in order of best overall, it would be:
1. Bridgestone BT016
2. Power Pilots 2CT
3. Diablo Corsa III
4. Power Pilots
5. Conti Attacks

The last two sets i have bought for my 1000RR are the Dunlop Roadsmart. Its more of a sport touring tire, not the best for dragging your knees, but I don't do that. I do get pretty aggressive though, and I used to ride all the time in the rain, the first set I had got just about 12K on them. I have a set of the Pilots, and I can ride a little more aggressive there, but by no means do I drag knees or anything, but I do like taking on ramps at almost 3 times what it says to do. I haven't had a tire last as long as the roadsmarts, and I am not saying that are better than the others, I just know that in the rain and moist dewy mornings, that handle and stick to the roads very well.

I used a set of Pirelli Angel ST's on my '07 R1 and loved them! I ride mountains 99% of the time but the rear lasted about 6000 miles and I was still able to drag a knee whenever I could. Look into them if you want a great dual compound tire that you can have the best of longevity and high lean angle stickiness.
