So as some of you may or may not know my bike started burning oil. Anyways I got it to a mechanic today and I need all these parts:

head gasket
base gasket
piston
rings
pin
clips
con.rod
left gaskets
right gaskets

Now I have couple questions. I couldn't find the connecting rod in the schematics so do I have to get the whole crankshaft? Also he wanted to know if the cylinder was cast as opposed to ?

Crankshafts can be rebuilt with a new rod, but what did he say was wrong with yours? Too much play on the crank bearing, too loose at the wristpin? That seems pretty extreme for just starting to burn oil.

Never messed with the 700 cylinder, but I assume that it is a machined nikasil lined sleeve, not cast. I will let somebody who has had theirs tore down comment on that.

from what tho? the connecting rod cant be scored unless a bearing has let go, or some debris has flown around your bottom end, and from the list of parts you need i cant see either of these things happening

Im sorry I can't help with your questions but damn that sucks dude. What happened? Could your guy give a reason or just tell you what's wrong? How bad was it burning oil and what other issues caused you to tear it down?

Wow everybody's so curious as to why it burnt oil which does not matter. I know why it burnt oil but I will tell everybody since there so curious if it will help move the conversation in the direction I am looking for it to go.

When I bought my new UNI filter I fitted it to see if it fit right or if I had the right filter when I got it before I oiled it and after I fitted it I had to leave and do something in a hurry and forgot to oil the filter and drove with out the filter oiled for a considerable amount of time which burnt oil which led to a low oil level which equals my engine damage. Basically a huge fuck up on my part.

As for the mechanic he is pretty sure he knows what the cylinder is he just wants me to make 100% sure since this is the first XX he has ever done. He is a master Yamaha mechanic and the best mechanic where I live so it's my best option I never just took it to some backyard loco and said here fix my $11,000 machine.

Now that that's out of the way anybody wanna let me know if its cast or nikasil?

Edit: Sorry that post made me sound like a dick which wasn't intended just trying to get some info as quick as possible so I can get riding again.

I don't think anyone was trying to be difficult by asking more questions, just trying to be helpful and make sure that you have got the root cause identified. That way it doesn't happen again as soon as you put it back together. Best of luck on the rebuild.

Its the nature of internet forums, its hard to know the posters knowledge and by asking those questions sometimes you identify an easier solution, or at least people reading it see your mistake and don't make it themselves. I have read threads about 'I blew it up' and kept reading to find out how so I don't make the same mistake

Good luck on your rebuild

Ok so boost addict says it is a cast steel sleeve. My local Honda dealer just told me it's nikasil. Who is right? Can I get some more people weighing in on this I need to know if I have to get a new cylinder asap. Thanks.
