I tried a search but for some reason it didn't work, telling me that the word oil is only 3 characters.

Anyways I'm new here and I'm wondering what oil weight you guys are using and what brand you think works best with the quad(700XX). I know usually amsoil is pretty good but not sure if its good with the clutch of my 700xx.

I have always used Honda oil, and never had a problem. Navynut, what is your job in the navy?

Where are you stationed out of? And yeah, that should be okay. I just buy 4 or 5 gallons at a time, so I don't have to go back to the Honda shop so much.

I'm in Canada, so I guess like my motorcycle, 10w40 is good year round oil for my quad...

It seems most people are happy with Honda oils...I think I may use it myself from now on
If it is anything like yamalube, I would save it for my lawnmower. If you really want to know, send in a sample for testing...numbers don't lie. I can tell you that the bel-ray thumper oil is junk and the Klotz MX4, which is what I use, is really good stuff. I have also heard good things about mobil 1 and amsoil as well, but have not seen any testing results.

Another question, how much millage before the first oil change ? The manual says 100mi, thats pretty low...what do you guys think ? I'll probably stick with amsoil as they usually make some good quality oil. Used mobile1 in my SV seems pretty good also.

I can't say anything bad about the others, but I do know that my cousin could feel a little bit of a difference in his gold wing when he was shifting after he switched to Honda oil. He said it shifted better. Whether it would be that noticeable or not, I don't really know. But he swears by it. I have always used it, because I can get good deals on it. But as long as you have the right oil in it, compatible with the clutch, (ie. not regular motor oil) then you should be fine. It is the first oil change, and it is so low to make sure you get anything that is left in there after manufacturing out.

So how many miles before I should change the oil ? The manual says 100mi/20hours, I did 100mi in 3 hours so not sure if I should change it or not...

Oil

i changed my oil after the first ride i know a little over kill. and every two or three rides so about 10 hrs or so. but when you ride at the dunes all the time it is well used even at brake in. i use Valvoline 4 stroke oil have had no issues yet i prob have any where from 25-50+ hrs on bike since Christmas 09 all of which is dunes mostly wide open throttle. O if you like to jump you cant find a better bike i jump as far as 450s and rappy or farther. Landings are great even landing on one rear tire the independent suspension is amazing and stable.:hey: Have fun and welcome to the group:yay:
