My wife has a 08 400EX right now but its not that great at the dunes. My question is should I take it to Trinity Racing and have them do the 440 or 460 big bore on it or should I buy her a bigger quad for when we go to the dunes? The other 2 quads we have been looking at that are in our price range are a Raptor 660 or a Outlaw 525.

If you want more power with reliability I would get the Raptor. I have heard that the EX 400 often times has issue's with reliability when modded. The Outlaw 525 is a power monster when it is not broke down. I have an Outlaw, love the power, hate the quality. If your set on the Poo Poo let me know and maybe we can work a deal on mine. I have to warn you stock it is faster/quicker than my XX with mods.

If you do decide to go with the raptor....go for the 700, not the 660. the 700 is faster and has better suspension and not as top heavy.

We are not looking at a 700xx or Raptor 700 because we dont want to spend that much money for a quad she is only going to ride when we go out to the dunes. We can get a nice used Raptor 660 for 2600 or a used Outlaw for 3000 or I can put 1500-2000 into the 400EX. I just dont know what I should do?

How about a used 450r or Banshee? I know the 2 stroke thing is going the way of the dodo but they were good in the dunes. the 450r from what friends at work say about theirs are pretty good in the sand too.

I would buy the Raptor, they are great machines. The early ones had some trans issue's but the newer ones(03 and up I think) are very reliable and have decent power. A TRX450 would be nice but I don't think you will find one for 2600. If you like problems the Poo Poo is the way to go.

Thanks guys. I am talking to Trinity Racing about getting the 400EX some more power. They say that the 440 big bore kit would be great for what my wife is looking for. We may just start off with a full exhaust, dynatek CDI, K&N proflow kit, and a Edelbrock 38MM carb kit and see if she thinks she still needs more power.

lol. She tells everyone she is 5"3 105, I would say 5"1 115. She just wants to keep up at the dunes and I just want to spend money on her quad because that means I get to spend the same on mine.

I just ordered a full HMF exhaust, dynatex ignition,K&N kit, and new jets for her quad. What stage cam should I get to go with these mods and do I need to upgrade the carb?

....stock wouldnt go more than stage 2, and you shouldnt need to upgrade the carb...your probably only lookin a 7-10 hp (including the cam)....most cam websites will list the required engine mods to accompany cam upgrades ie, valves, springs...etc

or you could save yourself some money and drop a tooth in front or add a few in rear to make it "torque-ier"...it will give her the feel of much more hp. up to you.....i'd pass on the cam for a bit. full exhaust and jet kit...change the gearing and you'll have a new quad.
