Valvoline 2-cycle TC-W3 oil

I was out of premix that I normally use, so I bought Valvoline 2-stroke oil since I didn't want to wait for my other oil to arrive. Since I have not used this oil before, I mixed it to spec which is 20:1 for my 85 ATC250R. I know that 2-stoke oil is much better than it used to be, but I didn't want to take any chances which is why I mixed at 20:1. It seems WAY too rich. If anybody has used this oil before, what is a safe more diluted ratio to use. Thanks.

I go all the way to 40:1 on my kids 2 strokes. 32:1 seamed to rich for me. 5 gals of 93 octane with 16 oz. of oil. But i have no idea whats safe for your 250r.

And you DO use this oil? If I understand correctly, the manufacturer recommends 32:1 for your machines but you mix at 40:1? What are these ATV's? Do they smoke a lot? I do know that 20:1 is TOO rich for my 250. I can fumigate for mosquitos the way it is now. Thanks for the response.

Yes I've used this oil before. I don't buy it all the time, sometimes I spring for the Polaris ves gold plus. And sometimes I buy the cheapest I can find. The quads I run it in are 2 small kids quads Polaris sportsman 90cc. And I have a 50cc predator I've used the Valvoline in as well, but it is still set up using the oil injector system. And yes at 32:1 they smoked a lot, not so bad now and that's why I raised it.

But this, unless your fowling plugs left and right, I'd stay with the mix you know.

Thanks for the feedback. In the past 29 years, I have only used Bel-Ray MC+1, Golden Spectro, and Amsoil Saber. All of these oil appear to work really well. I am only on my second top end. I have not had to do anything to the bottom end. The cylinder and piston looked great. Very little carbon build up and no damage. The Valvoline was just to get me by until I got some more ordered. I am interested to know opinions of what some of you think the best 2-cycle oils are. For the opinion to be of any significance, it is important that you have actually used them for an extended period of time under pretty harsh conditions AND seen the inside of your engine after using said product.

Thanks again to all.
