Temp light!

I took my son and his wife riding @Perry State Forest Sunday. The Blk&gry quad he was riding got hot a couple times bringing on the temp light. The trails there are slow & technical. Mostly running in 2nd gear, although I hit 4th once or twice leaving them in the dust. I haven't looked at the quad yet to check radiator level, but the over flow bottle is good. So I don't know if there's a issue with the quad or not. It may have been a rider issue with him not shifting out of low gear when needed, or maybe the thermostat? The other two quads did well. His wife really impressed me riding the little 200 she took it up all the hills we did. At first she was a little afraid of some of them but next thing I know she was riding right up them with us!

Last week before I went to West Virginia. I checked my radiator level, it was good. So I pulled and tested the t-stat, it also appeared okay. I did notice the front of the radiator had some mud caked up on it, even after the power wash. So I put it back together, sprayed the radiator off real good. Topped the radiator off, and bleed the air out of the system. Let it run for 30 mins parked, the fan cycled at least a couple times. The temp light never came on, so I guess it was just the mud on the radiator.

Ran the blk&gry quad pretty hard all day yesterday at WNF. And it ran great, no temp light! So I guess this was just a case of mud on the radiator. I was worried all day, that it was going to get hot on me. So this was a nice relief.

So it was the mud causing the problem. Good thing you fixed the issue.

Yeah I guess it was, but I'm still not sure if he shifts it when needed. He is a little green when it comes to shifting gears. I noticed when he slows for a corner he sometimes wont d/shift, And sometimes he even tries to stop in gear, w/out pulling the clutch in, lol. He thinks when the quad stalls out during times like that, it's a mechanical issue, not driver error.
