I like them. There a good bike with a solid motor. Just kinda ugly stock, but you can buy some aftermarket goodies to make them look better.

i know the head light is ugly.. i like the acerbis headlight so that will be the first thing done to it. i just want a good bike to cruise around the neighborhood with the occasional wheelie

Yea, put a new headlight and a under tail kit. Then the big 3 and you got yourself a nice bike!

I use to ride one before the quad. It was very heavy in the trails, at the speed I was going and I crashed. Broke a lot of bones. Did not hurt the bike at all. If you want something to cruise then its a great bike but if your looking for something fast in the trails then get something lighter. Now I ride the 700xx, I go fast and don't crash.

To the guy riding a DRZ400SM on the trails and breaking bones,

OP, the DRZ is of course one of several bikes that serve the same purpose. Before pondering the SM, ponder the regular DRZ. They are known for being: the most nimble off road, the quickest, but the least comfortable on long hauls, with considerable wind buffeting at speed. Now, going back to the SM, if you want nimble and quick combined with short distances, the SM is the way to go. If you want to go longer distances with it, I'd look at KTM and some of the expensive bikes instead, assuming you want the street version of the others as well. Also, DRZ is not for riding two up. The KLR is the smallest I'd go for two up. I have a KLR and it's fine for passengers.

One more comment: if I was looking at the DRZ, I'd certainly be trying to find a Kawasaki 250 for half the price just for the sake of playing the field out.

Super forum and awesome people....not quite as great as this forum however ;)

These are great little bikes, I have a 2007 SM and love it....it's not a race bike (read heavier and less power) but for around town and a day in the twisties it doesnt get much better. Heck if you want to put some money into is...some people have these things over 60hp while maintaining stock reliablility. This being said with a few inexpensive tweaks these things open up and come alive.
the forum is a great place to cruze around and ask questions.....keep in mind you are going to see every my bike is broke thread possible....thats when most people find forums in the first place. Enjoy and lmk if you have any questions!....buy one already
Read the FAQs part....

While we're at it, be sure and check this forum out:

http://advrider.com/forums/

There are 165,000 members from all over the world and usually at least a few thousand online at any given moment. The only reason I advertise it is because it is not a competitor of this forum and it will only increase your love of the vehicles that brought you to club700xx. Actually, I went from advrider to club700xx because someone posted a link to club700xx while we were talking about KLR 650s. A couple of weeks later I was on four wheels again.
