Front mud guards..

This topic has created some more interest in other threads and also hi-jacked them so thought it time to post about mine..
I used a two mounting position, with 12mm bar and 5mm angle iron..
the angle iron is mounted to the threaded part of the ball joints, as can be seen in the pics..
It does not leave a lot of thread to get the split pins back in but half of one has to be better than none at all. alternatively, a nylock self locking nut will do the same job.
My guards came off a taiwanese 100cc quad, but another can be the ds 650, or as in the other pics i have, a trailor mud guard cut down to fit a kwack 450 and ktm 520, as in my pics.
Each quad is mounted differently too, the kwack having a single clamp on the steering arm, the ktm with a single bracket on the ball joint.

Thanks! Every time i hit some mud, I think about how I ought to do this. So, how is the protection? Night and day difference, or marginal improvement? Maybe we all need for you to take just one of them off, ride some nasty stuff, and then post pics of yourself.

I,ve ridden some 20,000 miles off road on a quad .
started back in 2004 when some very nice euro ruling allowed them to be road legal.
Its mainly muddy here.. In winter when riding trails the mud flicks up off the front wheels, then you either ride into it or the wind blows it onto you, covering your goggles and soaking your gloves..
the front guards virtually illiminate this problem so gloves stay dry, hands stay warm and clean enough to wipe the rare splattering of mud from your goggles..
I would never be without them !

So answer is "huge" improvement..
Still get covered in mud from back wheels but as long as vision is clear i can live with the rest (but am wondering how rear guards would work?)

yup just sold my ds and am totally missing my front fenders, you should make these ready to bolt on and sell them i would deff buy a set from you

Nice idea but the way they are attatched leaves something to be desired as there is no "correct" way.

with disconnecting of battery, spot welding in situ to hold things in position, on and off with the front wheel, heating, bending,fitting, removing, more heating and bending etc it was a whole days work to get the finished product, add to that the cost of the guards (depending on what is used) and it starts to become a very expensive item.

thats because this forum only allows a certain amount of m/b upload..
Once you have used it up you have to delete stuff to post new., so it kinda ruins some posts.
