waving Boy, I've been rude....

I've joined the site and been asking questions but never introduced myself. My bad and I apologize for my rudeness.

My 700xx is mostly stock except for the DG skid plate and DG bumper... That plastic crap had to go. I have more mods planned for this winter, but not for racing... An old fart like me has no business on a track. But then again, I don't just putt around either. I ride almost everything except tracks... fire roads, forest trails, desert and dunes. I also have a tendency to like the more technical riding. Here in California, there is as much of that as you want. I live in San Francisco (I refer to it as San Freakshow) but ride all over California, Nevada and Washington... so far. Just getting back from an injury... cracked ribs and cracked scapula. I rolled my 700xx at a place called Stonyford. Trust me, I felt every pound of that 500+ pounds on my right shoulder as my quad made me the center filling in a quad/rock sandwich.

So... Hello everyone!!

Welcome!

Last weekend in a normal maneuver I bounced the front end off an obstacle and didn't let off the clutch. It went straight up and started rolling back. I let go and it rolled over and onto me. I tried to break the fall with my shins, it rolled off of my shins then knees and I got the left grip and clutch handle right below my left pectoral muscle. I have bruises from my ankles to my knees and of course across my chest.

The 700xx obtained from injury.

I love riding on the sand.

This crash was last Memorial weekend... quad is fixed except for scared plastic and I'm back to full riding even though I still have shoulder issues. Trail we were on forked... we took the right fork but decided to turn around because the trail got real steep rough and very rutted and the ride leader thought it was too much for the skill level of 2 of our group... We went back and took the left fork and it was just as steep and rutted. I got to a very steep low speed section and was in 2nd instead of 1st... quad stalled and started to roll backward. I grabbed the front brake but it was no use... tires just slid on the loose stuff. The pitch of that hill got my quad sideways and it rolled right over me and kept rolling the rest of the way down the hill. My only regret is that none of the group got a picture of my crash. Quad had 3 of 4 rims bent, one a-arm bent, front brake lever broke off and handlebars mangled. The crash also broke my pink little girl's bicycle horn. Why did I have a little girl's bicycle horn? Because it was just silly enough to suit me. Rode damaged quad the 15 miles back to camp and we loaded my quad and then I drove myself the 60 miles to the hospital... then the 200 miles home. I gave healing 30 days and was ready to ride again. We've gone back to the same place and same hill so I could get my revenge on THAT hill. I won the second round with the hill.

My very next ride back from my crash, my riding buddies gave me a bicycle bell... you know "ching, ching" Said they couldn't find another pink horn for me. That bell is now on my handlebars.

BTW - I'm over 60 and think I've got the riding balls of someone half my age... Didn't start riding ATVs until I was 58. I'm also quite nuts.
