That's BS!! You only need to rebuild when a motor NEEDS it... For example: Your motor may indeed need to be rebuilt, but not because of a time schedule, but because of the air filter being trashed... could have caused grit to get in and cause premature wear. If these so called mechanics told you that your motor needs to be rebuilt without doing a compression check or a leak down test first, then they are just trying to pick your pocket.
