Texas here

Just bought an '08 700XX. It ran me $1500. I've only taken it on about a quarter of a mile ride around the block and it smoked like crazy. I got it from a used car dealership and the owner said previous owner claimed it needed new valve seals. I decided not to run it anymore and to go ahead and do some work on the top-end. This forum has been very helpful so far and I just wanted to introduce myself. New 700XX owner out of east Texas.

Welcome to the club

Sounds like you got a deal on the quad, depending of course how bad of shape the rest of it is!

Welcome g-low. Agree on the full rebuild if it's smoking that bad. Sounds more like rings to me if it's smoking under load.

PRM Desert II bumper and PRM Control Grab bar, Houser anti-vibe Pro-Bounce nerfs, DS450XC shock mod, ROX anti-vibe 2" riser, Tusk billet gas cap, more to come.....

Thanks for the replies. I changed the valve seals and got a gasket kit, but opted not to change the rings due to what was said to me by the seller. Now I think I will be breaking it down again and changing the rings. I have another gasket kit in route, and now I gotta get some rings. I have a post in the maintenance section of how it sounds now, which is not so well.

might a good idea to take a look at the cylinder before ordering parts

Agree with this, no way I'd pull the piston and not replace it.
