Hello everyone I'm new to this forum, I live in Farmington, NM. I just got a 08 Honda TXR700XX it has a clean Vin and I knew the motor was bad so I took it to my local shop for a rebuild. I was given an estimate of $2500.00 - $3000.00, is that high? Also does anyone know of a rebuild service that builds these? Maybe someone has a motor they would be willing to part with? I'm very mechanically inclined, and would love to do my own repairs, I'm just not home enough to tackle this type of job.....thanks
Nflow motor sports. Not sure right off where there located. As far as the price quote what are they replacing, have they even seen the motor yet. If rebuilding the top & bottom end, that's a awesome price! I think I had around 2k in parts, and got some good deals, and purchased some parts used.

Guy that had it before ran it without oil, says the oil plug fell out. The Piston got hot rolled the skirt and destroyed the cylinder. So new cylinder and piston, new cam, new bottom end with crank, bearings and gaskets and seals. Basically everything but the cases, transmission and head. Keeping it stock though no stroker kit or big bore kit. Thanks for the welcome.
Sounds like a good price, as they will have well over half that in parts. You say the head is good,(have them measure it to make sure it's in spec) but I'd bet the valves and guides are not. I would have those replaced while at it along with valve seals, also make certain they replace the cam chain, and check the guides. If the cam was wiped it likely needs new rockers as well. Hopefully the repair shop is reputable and warranties there work. If you picked the quad up for a good deal, it is well worth the 3k in repair, that is if the rest of the quad isn't in major need of repairs. Like the rear inboard joint will set you back a few dollars alone.
So keep that in mind, and the fact that you can find these quads pretty clean for around $3500.
Thanks for the info. The bike appears to have been rode hard but mostly cosmetic. I checked all the wheel bearings and A-arm bushings, everything feels right no slop or play and frame appears to be straight. The shop belongs to a guy that I have been using for a while now and have never had any problems with his work.
