2015 Winter Helmets Buyer's Guide

Quote:
Just because the mercury has dropped, it doesn't mean you have to stop riding your ATV or UTV.

While you're likely in for a miserable day if you go out for a ride in your regular gear when you can see your breath or snow is on the ground, with proper planning and the weather-appropriate attire, you can extend your riding season as long as you'd like.

With some additional accessories, you can get away with wearing your regular ATV helmet. However, a helmet designed for cold weather is a smart option. To find a good one, we look to snowmobilers for winter riding inspiration. Snowmobilers are the kings of finding ways to stay warm in the bitter cold and if they use a helmet, you can bet it will keep your head and, in particular, your face, much better protected from the cold winter wind.

IDK I sled with a full face, split helmet with a plug in defogger and a nose piece to keep the breath off the shield. I use a "helmet sock" to keep the snow and wind off my neck and the annoying gusts at bay. Several of my friends use motocross helmets, goggles and a helmet sock with no problems. Although everytime we stop they put the goggles over the engine vents to clear off the fog. They say it only foggs when they are stopped for a bit.
I also ride my 08 victory in the cold with both my full face motorcycle and snowmobile helmets. By controling breath release I can keep the warm weather helmet clear. My best investment so far though as been my heated gloves w/ a temp adjuster. cables route through your jacket and connect to a plug wired to the battery. have ridden in 20 deg weather without a problem, now thighs and feet are cool but hands are toasty.

Its amazing how far a KFX 90 will fly if you go fast. 15' is her current record.
