The over flow should also act as a reserve, but it would not hurt to check the radiator as well.

If the coolant recovery system external container has adequate coolant in it (filled to mark) the radiator should be filled to the top. If you got to check the radiator by removing the cap you will find that coolant may run out. That is because the external tank will refill the radiator as the engine cools. The external tank is merely a way to allow the coolant to expand as it heats up. It goes into the external tank and held there as a reserve and any coolant that is needed will go into the radiator as the engine cools. If you take the radiator cap off, make sure the engine is cooled off thoroughly and remove the cap slowly as not to lose too much coolant.
