potential trx700xx owner

I have an opportunity to get a trx700xx for an awesome price (less than $1000). The problem is that when I went to take a look at it the quad wouldn't stay running. It currently has a dead battery so the guy tried to pull it off with his truck. It would crank up but immediately cut back off. Guy swore it would run, but I am skeptical when it comes to buying something that's is "suppose" to run. It is stock and It has scratches and looks like it has seen better days. I don't mind a little project but I dont want something thats already a lost cause. I have always wanted one and I don't want that to sway my decision.

I wanted to know from you guys what you think about the deal.

The way I see it, even if you have to put in a $1000 to $1500 you are still getting a deal...provided it is not completely trashed out. Depends on how much time you are willing to invest. Inspect everything closely, the frame, suspension, engine, etc. All of the 700xx quads I have seen that are in good shape are selling for 3 to 4k.

Welcome to the club

Yeah I'd buy it in a minute. The fact that you said it wouldn't stay running, means it runs and cant be to serious of a issue. Assuming it didn't clank rattle and then die. But like nacho said check it out good. Check rear inboard joints, a-arm and hub bearings. Make sure gas is on and has some. Hard to really tell from pictures, you say it's seen better days but appears to be on oem tires. So that generally mean low hours. Either way for 1k it's well worth that, just search for a frame on eBay.

Hey I appreciate the responses. I have read somewhere on this forum were it said it would not stay running if the battery was completely dead. I noticed that it was on oem tires too and thought that could be a good sign. I will be meeting with the guy this weekend and will probably be picking it up.

The guy has got into dirt bikes and this has just been sitting in his garage. The plastics are scratched and the brake light was busted and it wouldn't stay running. The guy bought it brand new from the honda dealership and has a title and its an 08 model. I feel alot more confident about the deal now that a couple of you say that its probably nothing major.
