Do you turn fuel off and run out of gas?

Growing up we had an 86' TRX 200 and an 87' TRX 250. Every time we were done riding, we would turn the fuel cut off to the "off" position then let it run its self out of gas. Is that needed on the 700xx with FI?
I did notice, on my very first ride, I thought I turned it on, but in fact I had turned it off. You can go a LONG time (20 mins alteast) with it in the "off" position.

I have done that a few times. Cruising along and sputter, sputter die. You are right, this thing does run quite a while in the off position. I turn the fuel off but do hot run it out. I want the fuel system to stay full to keep the lines from drying out and crackin. I also run Stabil in all of the bikes and stuff.

we turned the fuel off from 1987 till 2001 and never had an issue. Infact, the gas tank rusted out of the 87' before it ever had an issue. As far as I know those 2 quads are still running. Regular oil changes is all the maintence ever required by those things. Amazing.

I haven't turned mine off yet. I would with the 400EX when I would stand it up to clean it.

You do not need to do this with a fuel injected bike. It is actually harmful to run electric fuel pumps dry
