700 xx decompression spring question

I've only owned my Xx for about a month...I recently upgraded to a stage 1 cam I didn't pay no attention when I change the D compression fitting but in hindsight there was no spring.......I can't find photos of a sprain I can't find anything I don't know if my D compression fitting is working or correct ....it definitely fit perfect and had a little pin hole where it was obviously lined up and you can tell was in the correct position....but there was no spring tension or spring anything it just kind of hung there.....it could not rotate or anything out of place so I know it's fine but I don't know if it's working cuz there was no spring...
was this spring separate did it possibly fall out and me not notice or was it may be missing in the first place I know I moved the decompression fitting to the new cam just as it came off the old one there was no spring am I crazy what is this I hear about a spring is there really a separate spring to the D compression fitting
