I'm back... with issues.

So I've been delving into the forums looking for fixes to why my xx is spraying coolant out of the rad overflow. We think its the pump isn't spinning. Anyone know if I can start up the xx with no coolant and with the water pump cover off?

Sounds like a head gasket to me....with no water pump, you would get hot very fast, are you getting a temp light? (don't know if the XX has one) I doubt it is the water pump, you should be able to pull the cover and try to turn the impeller by hand, if it free spins...that is a problem as it should not turn.

Some more info would be nice, like how long it runs before you notice the water coming out the over flow. Does the temp light come on like 09Rappy asked? Have you check the t-stat? Idk but cant see it being a head gasket, wouldn't you have water in the oil, or a leak at the head it self? Sounds like something is corked up for sure, are the radiator fins clean?

No, the water jacket ports are right along the cylinder, and cylinder pressure is much higher than cooling system pressure. if it leaks between the cylinder and timing chain, it will end up in the crank case and you will have high case pressure, but usually it leaks right to the water jacket ports and into the cooling system, which over pressurizes it and it relieves to the expansion tank causing it to overflow, it could however be a thermostat....but if it is not getting hot...then head gasket. The only way you will have water in the oil is to have it leak between the water jackets and timing side, or the water pump mechanical seal goes and the oil seal goes, neither of which are likely, and even then your tell tale passage would have the be clogged......or of course if you crack something, water in the oil that did not come from outside the motor like a mud hole or whatever is usually bad juju.

Sometimes, if it does not leak that bad, at idle you will see small bubbles in the exspansion tank and then when you get on it, it will overflow.

I can let it idle forever and coolant wouldn't come out, however if I go over whoops, choppy sections, or accelerate hard it just sprays out, I might be able to get you a video in the next couple days. Will also check the radiator.
