headscratch Valve Train Noise ??? Fan Sensor ???

Ok, my xx ticks and I'm pretty sure it's normal, but I have the only 700 I have heard and/or rode and although I haven't checked the valve clearances yet, my 450r ticked pretty good even with the valves completely within spec...

My quad starts up and runs beautifully, no smoke just a little clickety clack from the rocker box, I may be slightly lean, but I am saving for a FMS and it doesn't really hesitate or bog from idle to the limiter at all...I also have alot planned, but want to tackle this first...

The only mods it has are a K&N with outerwear, the stock spark arrestor and baffle removed, a billet exhaust tip, AMS swamp foxes and a one tooth up (yes up) front sprocket (will clock it soon)....

Here's what I'm wondering, do others tick also ?

Oh, I also heard they make a switch for the 700 now that will turn your fan on a few degrees cooler, does anyone know anything on these ???

sorry if i posted this in the wrong spot, just learning my way around here ;-)

I haven't seen the fan switch yet but would like one if there is one out there. All XX engines are pretty loud, I wouldn't worry much about the noise. It is a good idea to check your valves though, It's really simple on the XX.

I can't say that I would worry about the noise, but as Smo0oth states, it is a good idea to check them. The hardest part on checking the valves on this beast is removing the plastic and gas tank. As far as the switch, I haven't seen anything. But I imagine you could tinker with it, maybe use a resistor/rheostat set up or something.

I thought so, it sounds just like my 450r did, but just wanted to double check, i suppose with the .006" and .008" lash combined with the 4 huge valves shoved into that little tin rocker box being driven by a violens 10 to 1 compression explosion from a 4" piston, you should expect noise...

thanks guys, i also checked my spark plug at idle, looked surprisingly dark, not carbony, but darker than i thought it would be for a stock efi set-up and i pinned it in 3rd gear and shut her down, coasted to a stop and it looks the same, so, i'm still planning a controller, but at least i'm not so worried about it, i'm sure y'all worry too, it's my baby and i dont want to hurt her !!!

i'm leavin nc on tuesday, headed up to my home town of drums pa and going to ride on some coal hills and stuff in hazleton, mcadoo, ashland, etc, i havent had it up there yet, i cant wait to school all the craptors !!!

I have been going there a few times w/ DaGirl and Nash. I like the Hazleton trails quite a bit actually. You head up this way a lot? When are you going? As we may ride next thursday perhaps if you are around.

I lived there for 27 years man, me and my boys are pretty much famous for making nsane hillclibms up there with nashees, that's why this xx shocks me, i cant get enough of it..haha
, but yeah the trails there are badass, whether you want to booze cruise, jump, climb, mud, it's all there ya know and you can ride for miles from town to town, down here you have to trailer your quad miles and PAY !!! just to ride, i feel so trapped

I'm supposed to go up tuesday to see my dad and ride, not sure when I'm coming back, but i's love to stay the weekend maybe...

Mine sounds like it has a slight rattling noise coming from the header side of the engine? I checked all the screws on the heat shield and the header bolts and theyre all tight? Any suggestions?
