Hello and fuel question

Bought my 700xx about 4 weeks after lurking here and several other forums for a couple of months. So far so good in the desert south of Las Vegas (Thats where I ride). Throttle is a bit touchy, but I am getting used to it. Anyways, I have always turned off the gas on my carbureted quads and let them run until they are out of gas when done for the day. I treat my gas with stabilizer, but always run them dry as well, zero chances of problems.

What do you do with the 700xx? Ive tried it, but it seems like it runs for ever and never dies with the fuel cut off. But I also thought that maybe its not a good idea to run it out of fuel due to the strain on the fuel pump.

So, treated gas and put her away wet (fuel turned off)
or Treat gas and turn off fuel till she runs dry.

cheers!

BTW bought my 700xx mostly for the IRS. Went honda over polaris do to reliability (I am regularly 10 miles away from ANYTHING, lol) , and FI cause its just cool, and even cooler not using a choke!

Don't run it out of gas. That is bad for the injectors and stuff on anything that is FI. Plus, if you try, it will take I think around 10-15 minutes of it sitting around idling.

2008 700xx; Power Bomb header with power core 4 exhaust, Power Programmer III, pro armor nerfs, prm products control front and rear bumpers and full skid, 10" ITP rears, ITP Baja's fronts, RZR 2's all the way around, Uni filter, 13t sprocket, CCP steering Damper, DS450 shock swap, Dual Gasser Throttle, bar risers and Moose barkBusters. 730XX kit plus other engine mods!

I just shut my quad off and turn the gas to off. I never use any fuel treatment and re-fill my tank after each ride. But then again, I don't store my quad for any long periods... I ride most weekends all year long.

Thanks, that confirms my instincts!

Roadkill, I wish I always rode that much, but there always seems to be a few occasions a year where even though I thought Id be doing a lot of riding, 6 weeks goes by and no riding. Had a bike that in 6 weeks, if gas was not treated, 100% had to have the carb rebuilt. 2 $200 bills later, I guess im hypersensitive, lol.

BTW, bought the 13tooth sproket will be installing that soon. Even though Im a desert rider, I tend to ride whoopy technical stuff so low speed controllability is more imortant than top speed. Currently shopping for ds450 shocks. You guys were not kidding that the factory fronts really are like "pogo sticks".

I use fuel treatment in everything but my cars and trucks. I just use star tron, but that is b/c of all the darn ethanol out here.

If it had a way I could I am sure I would. I always shut the fuel off on all my quads, just habit.

If you are adding the fuel treatment, you do not need to run it out of fuel. Since it is treated, it is probably better for the lines and everything to stay wet. You are right though, the thing will run forever with the fuel shut off. I bet I rode a good 8 miles once with the fuel off before it died.

I would say if you have the fuel treatment in it, shut the fuel off, let it idle for half a minute or so, then shut it off. Quad will be just fine.

I agree with you though, Vegas gas is junk, I won't let it sit in anything for more then a month. Well, maybe the lawnmower, but thats about it!

Wouldnt like to comment about running out bad for the injectors but , am road legal and plenty of fuel stations around here so we go out and fuel up when getting low..
Have hit reserve a few times now whilst moving, reach down, switch to reserve and its instant recovery and off you go again !
A fuel injected raptor is exactly the same when it runs out .
