Hex key size?

I'm doing my first valve clearance check and, of all things, the dang hex bolt to get to the crank is too big for the keys I have. Can someone tell me the size please? Or if I just knew if it was standard or metric that would help, too. I have to go buy new ones so I guess if I new which type to buy I would be covered.

Thanks in advance for any help.

its definatly metric, i think its a 8mm or 10mm from memmory, then its a 17mm to turn the crank

So if I buy a set of large metric hex keys I should be fine. Is there a certain direction the crank has to be turned? I'm assuming it's supposed to turn in the same direction that it runs, but I don't know what that is.

you got the manual? it as all the info you need to do just about everything to the xx,

As people on the forum will help you just simetimes you have to wait a while to get the info.

The manual is available from the forum to download free in the "how to" section

Most metric allan key sets should go up to 10mm but having a 12mm and 14mm can come in handy
if you dont have a metric socket set the rough metric to imperial sizes are: 7/16=11mm 1/2=13mm 9/16=14mm 5/8=16mm 11/16=17mm 3/4=19mm 7/8=22mm and 15/16=24mm
these sizes will work on most bolts but having the correct metric sockets would be better

the rest of the world uses metric for everything. we are the weird ones that had to go and make things difficult. lol

I printed the manual and couldn't find which way to turn it or how big that hex bolt key is.

My 2009 Mazda 5 has metric and standard as it is a hybrid of Ford and Mazda parts. It's a PITA.
