ANYone trail riding with a 12 tooth fronty?

wanting to change to at least the thirteen on my 700xx, but wondered if the twelve would be better to teach a clutch to my teenage kids, (no stalling). I just trail ride and don't need the top speed. will be using the stock tires. I can change to the 13 when my kids get the hang of it, but will the 12 be too eextremely low in first? even for techie sections of trail? thanks for any first hand impressions.

13t is fine. I can let the clutch out in 1st or reverse at idle and it wont stall. I can't dump it but I can let it out fairly quickly.

I used a 12 tooth when I had 24" tires on the back. Unless you are using taller tires like that the gearing will be way too low

I can take off on idle with 14t and programmer. Programmer helps tremendously with stallling. 13t get good reviews, but if you are just doing tight trails I would go 12, or 3 with more teeth on rear sprocket.

Should be around 82 and 75.

I agree with 92K1500, after I installed a 13 I can almost idle up my trailer, before it wouldnt idle w/out a little throttle action. So go 13, I think with a 12 they may over rev and do damage that way?

12t will be too much torque with stock size tires even in the most technical trails. 1st gear will be completely useless. I tried it after getting rid of my 24" tires. Try it if you like as you can get sprockets for dirt cheap but that was the experience I had

No mode? The ones in the states are 86-87. They must govern the Canadian units so you can out run us. But seriously 87 is where the rev limiter hits with stock gearing. Smaller guys can hit it completely stock. 86 is top on mine with big 3 and stock gearing. It is just math after you know how fast you can go with the taller gears.
