Whats the difference with filters?
i see k&n kits are ridiculously priced, and Uni aren't very cheap, but Moose racing are very reasonably priced. whats the difference?

A Uni foam filter is like $30 on RockyMountain. Last I saw, Moose ones were still like in the $25 price range.

I've only ran Uni, so I can't really attest for anything else.

Get a UNI. It's a dual foam filter. The outside is coarse foam and the inner foam is finer. You cannot go wrong with a UNI filter. A K&N WILL let dirt pass if you are not religious about cleaning it all the time.

do you need a whole new aftermarket intake, or is it just a matter of changing the filter for best performance?

UNI is listed as a high flow, high performance foam (same as velocity or k&n paper) filter.
