I've searched all over and haven't found any confirmation of this swap being done. It was talked about but never picked back up. I've got a line on a set of shocks and would like to know if it is in fact possible. I'm sure a couple other xx riders out there would be pleased to know as well!!
I actually PM'd him and he messaged me back last night. He got the install done with modification to the upper shock mount. He had to make the mount half as thick and notch part of it for the shock it sit properly and then with a little finessing, it worked. He said he was going to get some pics up of the finished result.
As per Sonic007:
Ya, they are modified and mounted...quite a bit of modifying the top mount....you have to make the top mount about half as thick, then on the inside edge of the mount you have to notch it in to clear the factory mount position...a little massaging of the mount on the bike and they fit great...i havent ridden it yet, still snow on the ground here....my only concern would be the integrity of the new thinner top mount....but for the price, you cant beat the set-up...I'll post a finish pic soon.
After checking it out in the thread below this seams like a great find. We could send our stock rear shocks and these fronts to our new sponsor and have all four upgraded for allot less than one set of Elka's
Sorry for the delay, been super busy.....here if a couple finished pics....I would have loved to document the install better, but didnt have the time...I have a set of shock boots on order, I'll try to post a pic of the top mounts when I have them off....Thanks guys!!!
I'm headed to eBay now to find me a set. I couldn't convince myself to spend over two grand on shocks, I'll have these and the rears pimped out at Wiigstyle Racing
OOOO I wish I had some spare cash around! I bought my XX in Dec and between 4 tires, bumper, grab bar, nerfs, and other stuff I am piss broke! Hey Scott (xx700xx) now that we are buddies how about a loanski?
my friend has a predator and his stock shock fits the 700xx without modifing anything...they are fox not KYB... so here it is the girl question... what is the difference between these shocks and is it a bad thing to have to modify them?
There were a few different FOX shocks available for the Predator; I dont think any of them are as adjustable as the DS450 shocks.......One thing about some of the Pred shocks were that they were upgradeable with genuine Polaris (FOX) external ressi's.........that will just blow out the cost though.
Modifying the mounts should make no difference if done well.
thanks OZLINC! I understand everyones preference to Elka because of the air in fox but how does the KYB compare to them? which shock are you all talking about these are what I see on the can am site?
I tried to research this KYB shock I only find links for them with the DS450 or cars? Have they been around long?
Kashima-coated KYB HPG C40 aluminum piggyback front shocks with dual-speed compression, rebound and preload adjustments and 10.7 inches (272 mm) of travel
or
KYB HPG C36 aluminum piggyback front shocks with dual-speed compression, rebound and preload adjustments and 9.6 inches (245 mm) of travel
