Ds450 Front spring swap

I finally got around to swapping out my front springs. I usally use shock covers, but was still tired of looking at yellow spring's when I washed the quad. I changed the springs, with the help from a post of Baxter's. I wish I had a vise, like he mentioned, but I just went caveman style.

Wondering for the other's that have done this, did you leave the "Tender Spring" the smaller of the springs on the shock. I did and this thing seams to sit way high. Didn't do any measuring before of after, but here's a cell phone picture. Im thinking about trying w/out the smaller spring, or just going back to the baby shit yellow springs, errr!

What makes the ds450 shocks and springs better? Better valving? Resies? Just seen this a few times and I've been curious.

2008 trx700xx grey & black fmf titanium 4 full system air box lid mia dynojet pc III tuned by me. Trailtech vapor with a custom dashboard I built. Hardly ridden yet...

The oem front shocks are pretty low end. All you can adjust on them is the preload. The Ds450 shock you can adjust the compression, rebound, and the preload. Thus achieving a much better ride. As far as the springs, I thought I herd the oem spring was stronger, and that's why people were using it on the ds450 shocks. This is just a cheap way to upgrade the low end shocks, if you don't have $500.00 to $1500.00

Thanks, I knew our shocks were a little low end. They werent much compared to my 450r. Where do you find the ds450 shocks? A junk yard? How much would one expect to pay for a pair?

Mquick if the red springs are not able to be used maybe you can have the yellow ones sand blasted and paint them red. If you can't blast them maybe you can clean them up and scuff them but not sure how big of a pain it would be. Might be something you have already thought of but just throwing it out there. If you were a little closer I could do it at my shop. Good luck!

I got mine from a member here for $110.00 shipped and all ready had the top eyelet ground to fit trx700. I'd say check eBay and look into so Can-Am forums. Last set I seen here looked new and went for $120.00

Yea that's a thought. I'm pretty sure people were changing back to the trx spring cause it was stronger. But idk it's so high, like 16" to bottom of frame behind bumper. I still have yet to remove the tender spring and see how much that drops it, but looks like it will still be way high!

Bump

I took the tender springs off today. Lower'd quad a little but still looks high. I may just have to ride it and see if I want the ds450 spring back on. At this point I'm not sure why you would change it other than color.

I like the ride alot! I have yet to ride with the spring swap, not sure why other's do it at this point. I think the DS 450 spring was fine, I just didn't like the color. As far as year I'm not sure I bought my shocks from a member on here. They were already fabricated to fit the Trx700xx when I got them.

I'd check can-am forums for the shocks, instead of eBay.

okay i started looking last night on the ltr forum and they are pretty easy to get there for 100-150. I'll be looking at the ds forum today i know the ltr has some silver springs i think i may go for a set of them. good luck with the spring swap! look forward to hear what you think of it after a ride or 2, at the very least you don't have a yellow bike now Hehe;)
